Raina did not open the hotel door. “What do you want?” she asked through the wood. Coco answered that they needed to talk without Theo or the Lincolns controlling the conversation. After everything that had happened, the claim almost made Raina laugh.
“You tried to burn my stand,” Raina said. Coco denied setting the fire, carefully separating her orders from the employee’s actions. She had wanted records removed and the business frightened, not lives endangered. The distinction offered no comfort.
Coco warned that the Lincolns would eventually tire of Raina just as the Smiths had. Powerful families loved heirs as possessions, she argued, and Theo loved a childhood debt rather than the woman Raina had become. Every accusation targeted a fear already alive inside her.
Raina opened the door only far enough to face her. “Maybe they lied because they were afraid. You lie because you want what belongs to everyone else.” The difference left Coco momentarily speechless.
Coco noticed the silver chain in Raina’s hand. Recognition flashed across her face before she concealed it. The photograph from the hospital album had shown the same chain partly hidden beneath a blanket. If Theo saw it, the scar would no longer be the only proof.
She lunged, claiming the necklace belonged to the Smith family. Raina pulled back, and the door struck the wall. Their struggle brought hotel security running. Coco released the chain before witnesses could see her attacking Raina.
“She stole from my parents,” Coco announced. Raina held up the broken necklace and explained it had been packed among her childhood belongings. The guards refused to decide ownership and ordered Coco to leave.
In the elevator, Coco called the blackmailer and learned the Lincolns had seized his evidence. He demanded rescue in exchange for silence. She ended the call, understanding he had become a liability she could no longer control.
Theo arrived soon afterward, summoned by hotel management because his name appeared on Raina’s emergency arrangement. She resented the intrusion until she saw the soaked medical page in his hand. He did not enter until she invited him.
He showed her the surviving note about the silver star necklace. Raina opened her palm. The chain held only an empty clasp, but Theo reached beneath his shirt and removed a small star charm he had kept for years.
The metal edges fit the broken clasp perfectly. During the rescue, the charm had torn free in Theo’s hand. He had preserved it as the only physical link to the girl he could not find.
Raina touched the joined pieces and remembered fastening the necklace that morning long ago. The accident returned in a flood: Theo trapped after a vehicle struck the building entrance, flames spreading, glass cutting both their arms, and her refusal to leave him behind.
She swayed beneath the force of it. Theo caught her, then loosened his hold so she could choose whether to remain. Raina gripped his shirt and wept for the frightened child she had been and the years everyone else had rewritten.
“It was you,” Theo whispered. Gratitude filled the words, but something deeper followed. “Yet I don’t want you because you saved me. I want the woman who argued over lunch prices and bought her mother a vacuum before buying herself anything.”
Raina believed his sincerity, but belief did not erase the chaos around them. She asked for time. Theo agreed, returning the completed necklace without demanding any promise in exchange.
Noah called with news that the surveillance drive clearly showed Coco paying the employee before the arson. It also recorded her ordering him to destroy clinic evidence. They had enough to clear Raina publicly and force an investigation into Coco.
Raina refused to hide behind the Lincolns’ influence. She wanted the evidence presented through ordinary legal channels where the truth could be seen, not buried by another powerful family. Noah accepted the condition.
The following morning, police collected the drive and located the blackmailer. He offered testimony in exchange for protection, naming Coco as the person who ordered the sabotage. Asher’s presence at the warehouse placed him under suspicion too.
At the Smith mansion, officers arrived with a search warrant. Mrs. Smith watched in disbelief as they recovered the hospital photograph, medical supplies, and messages arranging the false scar. Coco insisted Raina had planted everything.
Then Theo entered beside Raina, the restored star necklace visible at her throat. Coco saw the proof, the police, and the disappointment spreading across her parents’ faces. Cornered at last, she pointed at Raina and declared that if she fell, she would reveal the secret that could destroy both the Lincoln and Smith families.
