As they plotted, Emma was completely unaware of the campaign being waged against her. She was too busy working on her projects, enjoying her success, and building her new life with Chloe.
One afternoon, Emma received an email from a potential client she’d been hoping to work with – a boutique hotel chain looking for a complete rebrand. “We’ve heard great things about your work,” the email read. “We’d love to schedule a call to discuss our project.”
Emma’s heart soared – this was exactly the kind of big project she’d been hoping for. She typed back immediately: “I’d love to! Let me know when works for you.”
They scheduled a call for the next day, and Emma spent hours preparing – researching the hotel chain, brainstorming concepts, sketching ideas. She was determined to make this work.
But when the call started, something felt off. The client seemed distracted, almost hostile. “So, Emma,” she said, her tone cold. “I understand you’ve been working with Ethan Hayes on his rebrand. Is that correct?”
“Yes,” Emma said, confused by the sudden change in tone. “I’m currently helping Nexus rebrand their business. Why do you ask?”
“No reason,” the client said, but Emma could hear the suspicion in her voice. “Just wanted to confirm some things I’ve heard.”
Emma’s stomach twisted. What had the client heard? Why was she asking about Ethan?
After the call, Emma texted Ethan: “Hey, I just had a weird call with a potential client. She seemed suspicious about our project. Did you tell anyone I was working for you?”
Ethan replied quickly: “No, I haven’t told anyone. But I’ve been hearing some strange rumors myself. People asking about your background, whether you’ve ever been accused of stealing ideas.”
Emma’s blood ran cold. Stealing ideas? Where had that come from?
“I’ve never stolen ideas in my life,” Emma typed back, her hands shaking. “Who’s saying that?”
“I’m trying to find out,” Ethan replied. “But it sounds like someone is deliberately trying to sabotage your career.”
Emma stared at her phone, her mind racing. Who would want to sabotage her career? Who would benefit from destroying her reputation?
And then it hit her – Liam and Sophia.
They were the only people who had a reason to destroy her, the only people who would benefit from making sure she couldn’t succeed without them. It made perfect sense – they were trying to stop her from building a new life, trying to make sure she stayed under their control.
“They’re trying to destroy me,” Emma whispered to Chloe later that night, tears streaming down her face. “They’re spreading rumors about me, trying to make sure I can’t get clients.”
Chloe’s face hardened. “We need to do something, Em. We can’t let them get away with this.”
“But what can we do?” Emma asked, feeling hopeless. “They have all the connections, all the power. I’m just one person.”
“Not just one person,” Chloe said, taking her hand. “You’re talented, you’re determined, and you have people who believe in you. We’re going to fight back, Emma. We’re going to show them that you can’t be destroyed.”
As they talked strategy late into the night, Emma felt a surge of determination. She wasn’t going to let Liam and Sophia win – not this time. She was going to fight back, protect her reputation, and build the career she deserved.
But little did she know, Liam and Sophia were just getting started. They had already planted the seeds of doubt in the industry, and they were preparing to do even more damage to Emma’s reputation.
And Emma was running out of time to stop them.
