Ms. CEO’s Baby Daddy Is the Merchant of Death – Episode 06
Connor left the garage by an unremarkable rear entrance and drove beyond the city, following roads that disappeared from public surveillance. Concrete walls rose from an isolated industrial property ahead of him. Hidden antennas scrambled external signals, while armed sentries watched every approach. By the time he passed the final checkpoint, the struggling truck driver had vanished.
Cypher waited inside a command center alive with silent screens. He confirmed that the perimeter was secure and the compound had become a digital dead zone. No phone could transmit, no satellite could listen, and no outsider could trace Connor’s presence. Only then did the doors to the operations floor open.
Rows of trained operatives turned toward him in perfect unison. The men and women who controlled Dominion Tech’s most dangerous missions lowered their heads and paid respect to their leader. “Commander Reed,” they declared. Connor accepted the salute with the authority of someone born to command, his grease-stained clothes doing nothing to diminish the force surrounding him.
He had built this machine to survive a world where governments smiled publicly and purchased weapons privately. Dominion Tech’s billions were only the visible portion of his power. Beneath them existed intelligence networks, private forces, and technology capable of making a man disappear. Yet Connor had entered the compound today because of a four-year-old girl wearing a children’s watch.
He gave Cypher Scarlett Hayes’s name. His lieutenant showed immediate surprise, then asked what Connor wanted with her. Until that morning, Scarlett had been only the mysterious woman from a truck and an occasional memory Connor refused to examine. Now she was legally his wife and possibly the mother of his only child.
Connor produced the sample he had obtained and ordered an independent DNA test. Cypher’s astonishment deepened when he learned the child might belong to his commander. He warned that Scarlett could be running a sophisticated deception designed to reach Connor’s billions. In their world, affection was often camouflage for greed.
The suggestion struck Connor with unexpected fury. He warned Cypher that another insult might cost him his tongue. Scarlett’s anger had contained no calculation, and Summer’s delight had been too pure to counterfeit. Even if caution required verification, Connor would not permit either of them to be treated like enemies.
Cypher apologized immediately. His loyalty was absolute, but so was his concern for the man who had survived by trusting almost no one. He accepted the sample and promised to test it personally. No laboratory employee would see the names, and no result would enter a public database.
Connor watched the evidence disappear into secure custody. The formal report Scarlett carried had already established paternity in the eyes of the law, but his enemies knew how to forge governments, records, and identities. This private test served a different purpose. It would tell Connor whether he could expose his heart without placing it inside a trap.
Yet doubt was already losing ground. He remembered Summer wrapping herself around him before he could crawl out from beneath the truck. She had not asked about money, gifts, or the years he had missed. She had only asked whether he would leave.
If the test confirmed she was his, Connor vowed to dedicate his life to her. Summer would never again wonder whether she was wanted. She would have safety, education, joy, and every dream his fortune could provide. More than wealth, she would have a father who answered whenever she called.
The promise altered the room around him. Dominion Tech had once existed to make Connor untouchable; now its purpose could become protecting a child. Every operative, weapon, and secret route would stand between Summer and danger. Anyone who tried to harm her would learn that her father had built an empire from survival.
Connor also thought of Scarlett. She had raised Summer alone while managing a company and hunting a man determined not to be found. Beneath her threats lived exhaustion he had failed to notice. If the child was his, then Scarlett had carried consequences that belonged equally to him.
He ordered Cypher to investigate the Hayes family discreetly while conducting the test. Connor wanted facts, not gossip: Scarlett’s financial position, her enemies, and the pressures surrounding Summer. He did not yet know that the gravest danger was not pursuing them from the outside. It was waiting inside the family home.
Across the city, Scarlett’s car stopped before Hayes headquarters. The building represented generations of money and influence, though debt now hollowed out its polished appearance. She reviewed figures on her tablet as she walked inside, trying to separate the corporate emergency from the overwhelming morning. She had found Connor, married him, and left Summer with more hope than the child had ever known.
Her assistant hurried to meet her, anxiety visible despite professional composure. There was something Scarlett needed to know before entering the boardroom. Her father was waiting, and he was furious. The warning came too late to change her path.
Scarlett had endured Stephen Hayes’s anger since refusing the marriage he arranged with Bennett Whitmore. Her father viewed obedience as a debt she owed for carrying his name. When she chose Summer over his plans, disappointment became open hostility. The company’s losses had merely given him a new weapon.
She asked where Summer was and received assurance that the child was nearby. Scarlett would have preferred to keep her far from the Hayes family, but the day’s upheaval had left few choices. She reminded herself that Summer now had Connor’s number. Even the thought gave her a fragile sense that she was no longer entirely alone.
The boardroom doors opened before she reached them. Stephen stood beyond the threshold with rage tightening his features, while Scarlett’s stepmother and Danielle watched from behind him. Their expressions promised accusation rather than solutions. Scarlett squared her shoulders, refusing to enter like a guilty daughter.
“Scarlett!” her father thundered, his voice carrying through the corridor. She met his fury without lowering her eyes, unaware that Connor’s investigators had begun tracing every threat surrounding her. While Connor waited to learn whether Summer carried his blood, the Hayes family was preparing to prove how desperately she needed his protection.
