True Heiress vs. Fake Queen Bee — Episode 26
Candice’s single word seemed to freeze the ballroom. Frank Kaplan looked from the stranger calling him Daddy to the Cartier watch on her wrist, then back to Hailey’s bruised face. Disbelief gave way to anger so controlled that even the music seemed afraid to resume. No one in the room dared laugh.
“I have one daughter,” Frank said, placing himself beside Hailey. “And she is standing right here.” The declaration carried none of Candice’s theatrical grandeur. It was a father’s certainty, simple and absolute, and it demolished the last shelter beneath her stolen identity.
Gail stared at Hailey as though the girl before her were a stranger. McKenna lowered her phone, now aware that every recording showed them tormenting the very person they had spent the day trying to impress. Around the ballroom, students began whispering apologies they were not yet brave enough to deliver.
Candice refused to surrender. She claimed Frank was participating in Hailey’s cruel performance and asked how she could have known so much about the family if she were a stranger. Dedra closed her eyes. Her daughter was using scraps gathered from a household employee as evidence of blood.
Frank recognized Dedra near the service corridor and demanded an explanation. The maid admitted that Candice was her daughter, not his, and that the Kaplan family had paid her tuition as an act of support. She confessed to obtaining the castle code from Hailey under false pretenses and helping conceal the family portrait.
The truth pushed Candice toward a different defense. She accused Hailey of manufacturing the entire misunderstanding by arriving at school dressed like a poor student and hiding her surname. If Hailey had behaved like an heiress, Candice argued, no one would have mistaken them. Several students looked uncomfortable because the accusation also exposed their prejudice.
Frank said his daughter had every right to choose her clothes and protect her privacy. None of those choices authorized Candice to claim another father, steal a family heirloom, or weaponize the Kaplan name against its owner. He asked whether Candice believed finding an unlocked door made everything behind it hers.
Hailey watched Candice’s expression harden. Even now, shame never became remorse. She appeared furious only because the audience had stopped believing her. The realization extinguished the last sympathy Hailey felt for the fear beneath Candice’s ambition.
Frank noticed the watch again and asked why Evelyn’s Cartier was on Candice’s wrist. The name of Hailey’s mother changed the atmosphere. Candice covered the clasp and insisted the watch had been given to her. Hailey quietly said it had been taken from her by force in the school hallway.
Frank held out his hand. When Candice refused, the security manager displayed the registration record already retrieved during the theft investigation. The serial number belonged to Evelyn Kaplan and named Hailey as its current owner. Legal evidence replaced every argument Candice attempted to invent.
With dozens of witnesses watching, Frank removed the watch from Candice’s wrist. He handled it with a tenderness that made Hailey’s throat ache. After checking the clasp for damage, he fastened it around his daughter’s bare wrist, returning more than jewelry. The familiar weight carried her mother’s memory home.
Hailey pressed two fingers over the Cartier and finally allowed herself to breathe. She had spent the day being told that truth depended on clothing, popularity, and stolen objects. Now her father’s hand rested on her shoulder, CeCe remained at her side, and Luke watched without treating her differently. The lie had lost every disguise.
Frank asked Hailey to explain the bruise on her cheek. She recounted the stolen watch, the cafeteria assault, the locker-room trap, and the laboratory incident without embellishment. Each event deepened the fury in his face. When Luke and CeCe confirmed her account, the party guests could no longer pretend the conflict had been harmless.
Candice interrupted to call them biased. She said Hailey had provoked every confrontation and used her fortune to recruit witnesses. Luke replied that he had defended Hailey before knowing she was wealthy. CeCe added that friendship had not required a bank statement.
The security manager informed Frank about the missing diamond bracelet and the hidden-camera footage. He played the crucial sequence again: Candice whispering to Gail, Gail taking the bracelet, and the jewelry entering Hailey’s bag. Though the recording lacked audio, the coordination was impossible to ignore.
Gail realized Candice intended to leave her carrying the entire crime. She pointed across the ballroom and declared that Candice had ordered the theft. Her voice broke as she described the promise that Hailey would be expelled and the evidence dismissed as proof against a poor criminal.
Candice denied everything and called Gail a liar desperate to save herself. Their alliance collapsed before the same students they had bullied together. McKenna stepped away from both girls, unwilling to become the next disposable follower. Isolation finally surrounded the false queen.
Blue lights appeared beyond the castle windows. The security manager explained that the jewelry alarm had automatically notified local police, who were arriving to document the theft and unauthorized access. Candice looked toward the sealed exits. Escape was no longer a social question; it had become a legal impossibility.
Two officers entered and requested the preservation of all recordings, access logs, and messages. They asked Gail, Candice, and Dedra to remain for formal interviews. Frank said the Kaplan family would cooperate fully. Then an officer turned to Hailey and explained that the victims would need to decide whether to pursue charges.
Hailey looked at Dedra’s tears, Gail’s panic, and Candice’s defiant stare. One decision could alter three lives and define whether compassion meant mercy or another chance for cruelty to escape consequence. The officer opened a statement form and asked Hailey Kaplan what she wanted to do.
