How to Tame a Silver Fox – Episode 11
Christina’s confidence faltered when Chris strode into the room. She spun toward Becca in accusation. “You were supposed to get rid of him.”
Becca released Harper, but the damage was already visible. Alcohol soaked Harper’s clothes, her diary remained in Christina’s hand, and every guest had participated through laughter or silence.
Chris crossed the room and positioned himself beside Harper. He did not ask whether Christina meant harm; he had seen enough to know.
“You come to her party, take advantage of her kindness, and make fun of her family life?” His voice stayed controlled, which only made the anger beneath it more dangerous.
Christina attempted a careless shrug. “It was a joke.” She expected the excuse to restore the social rules that usually protected her.
Chris did not laugh. “The joke is that Harper turned out to be a good kid without her father in her life.” The defense struck Harper unexpectedly, acknowledging both her pain and the person she had become despite it.
His attention returned to Christina. “Your dad taught you how to be a witch.” The insult stripped away the prestige she used as armor.
Harper wanted the humiliation to end, even if Christina deserved his fury. “Chris, that’s enough.” She had spent the night fighting to control her own life; being rescued in front of everyone brought another kind of powerlessness.
He remained focused on Christina until Harper spoke again. “Let her go.” Only then did his posture ease.
Christina mistook the pause for surrender. She straightened, ready to retreat with whatever dignity remained.
“And one last thing,” Chris said. He took a bottle of Scotch from the display that had lured Christina and Becca to the house.
Before either woman could move, he poured the liquor over them. Their shrieks replaced the laughter they had aimed at Harper.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Christina demanded, wiping alcohol from her face. “You’re too old to be this petty.”
“You’re damn right I’m petty.” Chris did not pretend his retaliation was noble. He wanted them to remember the cost of treating Harper as defenseless.
He stepped forward and made the warning clear. Harper might be too kind to display her family’s power, but he was not. If they hurt her again, he would hurt them back.
“But we’re literally just girls,” one of them protested, reaching for innocence only after losing control of the room. Chris’s expression did not change. “I don’t give a fuck.”
He turned to the crowd. “Everyone out. Get the fuck out.” The command scattered the guests who had been eager to watch but not brave enough to challenge him.
Within moments, the party Harper had built as her last chance at belonging emptied around her. She stood amid spilled liquor and abandoned cups, staring at the man who had defended her and destroyed the night in the same breath. “What the hell was that?”
