How to Tame a Silver Fox – Episode 15

The student center plaza was already crowded when Harper arrived with Maria. Phones rose the moment people recognized her, and whispers followed every step. Harper wanted to turn around, but she kept walking until Christina Fawkes saw her.

Christina stood at the center of the crowd with Becca beside her, both dressed as if the previous night had left no mark. “Look who finally decided to show up,” Christina announced. “Did your grandpa give you permission?”

Laughter moved through the students. Harper felt the old instinct to shrink, apologize, and wait for someone more powerful to rescue her. Then she remembered Chris telling her these people were not her friends.

“You stole my diary,” Harper said. Her voice carried farther than she expected. “You read it without my permission and poured alcohol on me while your friend held me down.”

Christina rolled her eyes. “It was a party. Everyone was having fun until your psycho bodyguard attacked us.”

“There’s video of what happened.” Harper gestured to the phones surrounding them. “Not just the edit you posted. If you want an audience, let them see the whole thing.”

Maria uploaded a second recording captured by another guest. It showed Christina entering Harper’s room, returning with the diary, and ordering Becca to restrain her. Notifications began spreading through the crowd before the video had finished playing.

Christina’s certainty finally wavered. “You think anyone cares about your pathetic little journal?”

“You cared enough to steal it.” Harper’s hands were cold, but her voice remained steady. “And you cared enough about Chris rejecting you to punish me for it.”

The crowd reacted with delighted shock. Becca whispered for Christina to leave, but Christina’s pride would not allow retreat.

“He didn’t reject me,” she snapped. “He’s using you because your father is rich.”

Harper refused to defend whatever existed between her and Chris. “This isn’t about him. It’s about you believing kindness makes someone weak.” She stepped closer. “It doesn’t.”

At the edge of the plaza, Chris watched from beside a black vehicle. He had followed at a distance, violating the spirit of Harper’s demand while honoring the letter of it. Every muscle in him tensed when Christina moved closer, yet he did not intervene.

Campus security approached after Maria showed them the unedited recording. Christina’s influence could not erase visible evidence, and she was instructed to come with them to discuss a formal complaint.

Harper expected triumph. Instead, she felt exhausted as the crowd dispersed in search of a new spectacle. Winning had not transformed strangers into friends, but it had returned something Christina had taken from her.

Maria squeezed her arm. “You did that yourself.” The simple acknowledgment meant more than all the attention Harper had tried to purchase the night before.

Chris waited until Maria walked ahead before approaching. “You were good,” he said. There was no kiddo, no lecture, and no claim that he could have handled it better.

Harper nearly thanked him, but a familiar voice sounded behind her. “Very brave,” Bryan said. She turned to find her ex leaning against the student-center wall, smiling as if his death threat had been a love letter—and Chris had not yet seen him.
