Falling for My Ex’s Mafia Dad – Chapter 2

Fay couldn’t move.

The image of Daniel kissing another man was burned into her mind like a brand.

One second ago, she had been planning their future.

The next, she was standing in a narrow café hallway watching everything she believed in collapse.

“Fay!”

Daniel pulled away from the waiter and rushed toward her.

“Please, wait!”

She stumbled backward.

“Don’t touch me.”

The pain in her voice surprised even herself.

Daniel froze.

For the first time since she’d known him, he looked genuinely afraid.

“Fay, it’s not what you think.”

A bitter laugh escaped her lips.

Not what I think?

She had literally caught him with his tongue down another man’s throat.

What exactly was she supposed to think?

“I can explain.”

“Then explain.”

Daniel ran a hand through his hair, his face pale.

The waiter—Colin—quietly slipped away, leaving them alone.

After several agonizing seconds, Daniel finally spoke.

“I like you, Fay.”

Her chest tightened.

“No.”

“I do.”

“You don’t.”

“I swear.”

His voice cracked.

“I care about you more than anyone.”

“Then why?”

Daniel looked away.

For the first time, she saw shame in his eyes.

“My family doesn’t approve.”

Fay frowned.

“What?”

“My family is old-fashioned.”

The words sounded ridiculous coming from a man whose family owned half the city.

“My father would never accept me being with Colin.”

The confession hung between them.

Suddenly everything made sense.

The secrecy.

The hesitation.

The moments when Daniel seemed distracted whenever conversations turned toward the future.

He wasn’t hiding another woman.

He was hiding another man.

Colin.

Fay closed her eyes.

Part of her wanted to feel sympathy.

But another part—the wounded, betrayed part—was screaming.

“You used me.”

Daniel immediately shook his head.

“No.”

“You absolutely did.”

“I never meant to hurt you.”

“But you did.”

The truth hit harder than any lie.

Daniel had known exactly what he was doing from the beginning.

While she was falling in love, he had been building a cover story.

Using her.

Pretending.

Manipulating.

Every memory now felt tainted.

Daniel stepped closer.

“Fay, listen.”

“No.”

“What if we continue?”

She stared at him.

“…What?”

“Just publicly.”

Her stomach dropped.

Daniel took a breath.

“My family believes we’re together.”

The realization dawned slowly.

Then anger exploded inside her.

“You want me to pretend to be your girlfriend?”

His silence was answer enough.

Fay actually laughed.

The sound was sharp and broken.

“You cannot be serious.”

“I’ll make it worth your while.”

Her expression hardened.

Daniel reached for his wallet.

“One million dollars.”

She blinked.

“Excuse me?”

“Two million.”

Fay felt sick.

He thought this was a business deal.

He thought her feelings had a price tag.

“I don’t want your money.”

“Fay—”

“No.”

Her voice echoed through the hallway.

“I don’t want your money.”

The tears she’d been fighting finally surfaced.

“I wanted you.”

Daniel looked stricken.

For a brief moment, guilt flashed across his face.

But it was too late.

Far too late.

“I never want to see you again.”

Then she turned and walked away.

This time, Daniel didn’t follow.

Outside, the afternoon sky had darkened.

The city felt colder than before.

Fay wandered aimlessly through the crowded streets, barely noticing where she was going.

Every step hurt.

Every memory hurt.

Daniel’s smile.

Their dates.

Their first kiss.

All of it.

Fake.

Her eyes burned.

Before she realized it, tears were rolling down her cheeks.

“Stupid.”

She wiped them away angrily.

“You’re so stupid, Fay.”

How had she missed the signs?

How had she been so blind?

The vibration of her phone interrupted her thoughts.

Buzz.

Buzz.

Buzz.

She glanced down.

Unknown Number.

Again.

The same contact photo she’d seen earlier.

Daniel’s Dad.

Fay frowned.

Why would his father be calling her?

She hesitated.

Then curiosity won.

She opened the contact information.

And immediately froze.

A lengthy article appeared beneath the profile.

The words made her blood run cold.

Kent Lippert.

Businessman.

Investor.

Philanthropist.

And—

The Mafia King.

Fay’s breath caught.

Her thumb shook as she continued reading.

The articles described a man feared across continents.

A man whose enemies disappeared without warning.

A man powerful enough to control politicians, judges, and entire criminal organizations.

The most dangerous man in the world.

“Oh my God.”

The attractive older man from the profile picture suddenly became much more terrifying.

The phone vibrated again.

Incoming Call.

Kent Lippert.

For several seconds, Fay simply stared at the screen.

Why would someone like him call someone like her?

What could the Mafia King possibly want?

The call continued ringing.

And for reasons she couldn’t explain, Fay had a feeling that answering it would change her life forever.

To be continued…
