Falling for My Ex’s Mafia Dad – Chapter 8
For several dangerous seconds, neither Fay nor Kent moved.
The hallway outside the nightclub had become strangely quiet.
Too quiet.
Fay could still feel the heat of Kent’s gaze.
The way he looked at her made her nervous.
Not because she was afraid of him.
At least, not entirely.
What frightened her was how much she enjoyed the attention.
Kent took another step closer.
“Do you know, Doc…”
His voice dropped lower.
More intimate.
More dangerous.
“I’ve wanted to do this since the first day I met you.”
Fay’s breath caught.
“What are you talking about?”
A faint smile appeared on Kent’s lips.
The answer never came.
Because suddenly his attention shifted.
His eyes landed on something hanging around her neck.
The silver pendant.
The necklace Fay had worn for as long as she could remember.
Kent froze.
The change was immediate.
His teasing expression vanished.
Replaced by something else.
Shock.
Confusion.
Recognition.
Fay instinctively stepped back.
Kent’s hand shot forward.
Not toward her.
Toward the pendant.
“What are you doing?”
His fingers closed around the necklace.
The chain tightened.
The pendant swung between them.
Kent stared at it.
The color drained from his face.
“Where did you get this?”
The question came out sharp.
Almost demanding.
Fay immediately grabbed the pendant.
“Give it back.”
Kent didn’t move.
His eyes remained fixed on the small piece of silver.
As if he’d just seen a ghost.
“Answer me.”
The authority in his voice returned instantly.
The Mafia King.
The man who commanded cities.
The man who terrified criminals.
And somehow…
the pendant terrified him.
“It’s mine.”
“Where did it come from?”
Fay shook her head.
“No.”
Kent’s jaw tightened.
“You have secrets.”
The accusation hit harder than expected.
Maybe because it was true.
Fay didn’t know much about her past.
The necklace had been left with her when she was a child.
No explanation.
No answers.
Only questions.
Questions nobody had ever been able to answer.
Kent stared at her.
The pieces were clearly connecting in his head.
Whatever he was thinking…
he wasn’t sharing it.
Not yet.
Then he made a decision.
A dangerous one.
“You’re coming with me.”
Fay blinked.
“What?”
“Now.”
Her eyes widened.
“You can’t be serious.”
“I’ve never been more serious.”
“No.”
Kent raised an eyebrow.
“No?”
“No.”
Fay folded her arms.
“I’m not getting into a car with a mafia boss.”
Kent sighed.
Almost as if she were a difficult child.
“You don’t have a choice.”
“Watch me.”
She turned.
And immediately regretted it.
Because Kent simply lifted her over his shoulder.
Like she weighed nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
“Kent!”
The world flipped upside down.
People were staring.
Someone laughed.
Fay wanted to disappear.
“Put me down!”
“No.”
“Put me down right now!”
Kent didn’t even slow down.
The infuriating man actually looked amused.
“You were very fierce five minutes ago.”
“I still am!”
“Really?”
His hand tightened against her leg to keep her steady.
“Because from where I’m standing, you look like a frightened little girl.”
Fay growled.
Actually growled.
Kent chuckled.
The sound vibrated through his chest.
Which somehow annoyed her even more.
Eventually they reached a private vehicle.
The door opened.
And within minutes, Fay found herself inside a luxurious estate unlike anything she’d ever seen.
Kent’s estate.
Of course.
Where else would a Mafia King live?
An hour later, Fay was sitting in an elegant medical suite.
And completely panicking.
“What is this?”
Kent stood nearby.
Watching her.
Observing.
Studying.
The way he always did.
A woman wearing a lab coat entered the room.
Her name tag read:
Fiona.
Fay immediately became suspicious.
Very suspicious.
“What are you doing?”
“No one’s hurting you.”
Kent’s voice sounded unusually calm.
That somehow made things worse.
Fiona approached carrying medical supplies.
Fay’s eyes widened.
“Oh no.”
The realization hit instantly.
Needles.
There were needles.
“Nope.”
She stood.
“I’m leaving.”
Kent gently pushed her back into the chair.
“Relax.”
“Relax?”
“It’s a simple blood draw.”
Fay stared.
Then stared harder.
“A blood draw?”
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
Kent sighed.
“You are making this far more dramatic than necessary.”
Fay pointed accusingly at the needle.
“That thing is literally designed to stab people.”
“It’s a medical instrument.”
“It’s evil.”
Fiona struggled not to laugh.
Kent looked dangerously close to smiling.
“Fay.”
His voice softened.
Unexpectedly.
“It’ll take ten seconds.”
For reasons she couldn’t explain, that actually helped.
A little.
Not much.
But a little.
Eventually, she allowed Fiona to draw a small sample.
The moment it was finished, Fiona sealed the vial.
Kent immediately took it.
His expression becoming serious once more.
“Get this to the lab.”
Fiona nodded.
“I want it tested.”
Fay frowned.
Tested?
“For what?”
Kent ignored her question.
“And compare it against the bloodline.”
The room fell silent.
Fay blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Bloodline?
What bloodline?
A thousand horrifying possibilities exploded inside her head.
As Fiona hurried from the room, panic took over.
“Oh my God.”
Kent looked up.
Fay pointed toward the door.
“Oh my God!”
“What?”
Her voice rose an octave.
“Are you running some kind of organ-harvesting operation?”
The silence that followed was deafening.
Even Kent looked stunned.
“What?”
“You kidnapped me.”
“I did not kidnap you.”
“You absolutely kidnapped me.”
“You got into my car.”
“After being carried into it!”
Fair point.
Kent pinched the bridge of his nose.
Clearly questioning every decision that had led him here.
Meanwhile, Fay’s imagination continued spiraling.
“Why did you take my blood?”
For the first time all night…
Kent didn’t have an answer he was willing to share.
Because the truth might change both of their lives forever.
To be continued…
