Hillbilly Girlie Marries a Billionaire – Chapter 1

Emily stood on the busy sidewalk, staring up at the towering glass buildings with wide eyes. Back home, the tallest thing she knew was the old grain silo behind her family farm. Here, everything shimmered, rushed, and roared like it had somewhere important to be.

“Wow…” she whispered. “So this is where Kevin works?”

She adjusted the small bag on her shoulder, carefully holding the homemade corn on the cob wrapped in cloth. It was silly, maybe, but it was love. Or at least what she believed love looked like.

“I know he’ll be excited to see me,” she smiled to herself.

Across the street, a sleek black car pulled up.

Lucas Anderson stepped out.

Cold, composed, untouchable—the kind of man who didn’t blend into crowds, but owned them without trying. His assistants followed behind him like shadows.

“Safe travels, boss,” one of them said.

Lucas barely nodded.

And then everything happened at once.

A man rushed in from the side—too fast, too desperate. A flash of metal. A grab for Lucas’s wallet.

“Hey!”

Before anyone could react, Emily moved.

She didn’t think. She just acted.

She swung her bag like a bat—hard, precise—smacking the attacker’s arm just enough to knock him off balance. The wallet flew through the air.

Lucas caught it mid-step.

The thief stumbled, cursed, and ran.

Silence fell.

Lucas turned his gaze to her—slow, calculating, slightly intrigued.

“You…” he said.

Emily blinked. “Oh! Oh—so sorry. I’m so, so sorry about that!”

Lucas glanced at the wallet, then back at her. “You just saved me.”

“Well, yeah, I guess I did,” she said awkwardly, brushing dust off her hands. “All good!”

His lips twitched—almost a smile.

Then he noticed the bag she was holding.

“…Is that corn on the cob?”

Emily froze. “Oh! Yeah. It’s from my family’s farm. I was bringing it to my boyfriend.”

Lucas paused for half a second longer than necessary. “Right.”

A strange silence stretched between them.

Emily suddenly bowed slightly. “Anyways—bye!”

“Wait,” Lucas said, but she was already stepping away.

She turned back once. “Hey, boss guy… you should probably get a security guard or something. This city’s kinda crazy.”

Lucas exhaled. “Let’s head back to the mansion.”

His assistant leaned in as they walked. “Your grandfather will probably start pushing marriage again.”

Lucas didn’t answer.

But his mind wasn’t on his grandfather.

It was on her.

Meanwhile, across the city…

Emily stood outside Kevin’s office building, pulling out her phone again.

No reply.

Still nothing.

“Why hasn’t Kevin texted back?” she murmured. “Should I call him?”

She hesitated—and dialed.

Inside a luxury office upstairs, Kevin’s phone lit up.

Emily Calling

He froze.

Across the room, a woman leaned against his desk—Rose—smiling like she already knew the answer to everything.

“Why is Emily calling you?” Rose asked softly.

Kevin swallowed.

“I… I’ll handle it.”

But his voice wasn’t steady.

And somewhere far below, Emily smiled nervously at the ringing phone, still believing—

He wanted to see her.

She just didn’t know yet…

that the city had already started rewriting her story.
