American Sniper: The Last Round – Episode 25

Federal agents surrounded Carl Oliver before the echo of his winning shot had fully faded. Director Mara Vale repeated that the rifle belonged to the government and had been removed from a classified evidence facility. Carl placed it on the table and raised his hands. Resisting would turn a legal trap into a firefight inside Lewis Valentine’s range.

Jane stepped between Carl and the agents. Matthew had brought the weapon, transported it, and demanded its use, yet Mara treated the shooter as the criminal. The director answered that possession and discharge of classified equipment remained offenses regardless of who delivered it. Her calm language made the arrest sound unavoidable.

Chris Redford produced the transport certificate Matthew had shown earlier. Mara examined the seals and declared them counterfeit. Matthew expressed theatrical shock, claiming an unnamed broker had deceived him. Jane recognized the same strategy he used with the sabotaged ammunition: create danger through intermediaries, then pretend distance meant innocence.

The agents handcuffed Carl. Rebecca cried out and grabbed his coat, asking why heroes were arrested after saving people. Carl knelt as far as the restraints allowed and promised that he was not leaving because he had done anything to hurt her. He asked her to stay with Jane and trust Chris.

Jane wanted him to promise he would return, but the unfinished conversation between them made certainty impossible. Carl looked at her with the same quiet acceptance that once infuriated her. She told him not to surrender to guilt again. This time, someone was going to fight for him.

Matthew reminded Jane that the range still faced foreclosure. He had transferred the loan to Vale Strategic Holdings, a company whose name matched the federal director now arresting Carl. Mara claimed the similarity was coincidental and said her private investments were administered independently. Chris immediately requested an ethics investigation.

Elena Cross handed over the software logs proving Matthew’s assistant corrupted the wind sensors. She also supplied video from her hidden camera showing the altered ammunition placed on Alex Westin’s station. Matthew accused her of editing the footage after losing. Elena replied that betrayal had made her careful long before meeting him.

Mara ordered the evidence seized along with the rifle. Carl watched one agent place Lewis’s note inside the same evidence case. He finally objected, stating that the message belonged to Jane. Mara said anything hidden inside classified equipment formed part of the investigation.

Jane refused to let her father’s final words disappear into another sealed archive. She photographed every page while Chris blocked the agent’s view. The images preserved Lewis’s accusation connecting Matthew’s shell company to the compromised mission. Mara noticed too late.

Alex rose from the medic’s chair and stood beside Jane. Shame remained in his face, but the explosion had finally taught him where the real threat lived. He told the agents that Carl warned him before the sabotaged cartridge fired and saved his life afterward. Arresting Carl while Matthew walked free made no sense.

Mara said testimony would be collected later. Her immediate warrant concerned classified property and Carl’s disappearance before the Medal of Honor ceremony. According to federal records, he had violated orders and remained absent without authorization for a year. The quiet handyman identity now carried military consequences.

Carl corrected her. His discharge documents had been approved before he vanished, and refusing a ceremony was not desertion. Mara asked whether he possessed those documents. The originals had disappeared from his apartment soon after he began working at the range.

Chris said his own service records could verify the discharge. Mara warned him that interfering might end his National Team position. The threat revealed how much institutional power stood behind her. Matthew smiled as allies who once appeared separate finally occupied the same side of the room.

Jane understood the contest had never been the complete plan. Matthew wanted the property, but someone else wanted Carl forced into public view. The blindfolded record, the military rifle, and the federal arrest had turned a vanished hero into a controlled target. Her uncle had baited the King of Guns out of hiding.

Police led Matthew’s assistant and the quarry gunman away, yet Matthew himself remained untouched. He told Jane she had twenty-four hours before Vale Strategic Holdings initiated foreclosure. Winning the competition had gained her nothing except the loss of the man who protected her.

Carl told Jane not to sign or surrender any document. Lewis’s note proved the debt transfer might connect to a larger conspiracy, and Matthew’s urgency suggested he needed the land for more than profit. Carl glanced toward the oldest storage building at the edge of the property. Lewis had once called it the safest place no one remembered.

Mara ordered the agents to move him. Rebecca called after Carl until the doors closed behind him. Jane held her daughter and watched the federal vehicle leave the range. Hours earlier, she had wanted the right to decide whether Carl remained in their lives; now that choice had been taken from her.

Chris examined the photographs of Lewis’s note. A faint series of numbers appeared beneath the final line, nearly invisible where the paper had pressed against the rifle housing. Elena recognized them as coordinates rather than a bank account. The location pointed inside the Valentine property.

Jane, Chris, Alex, and Elena crossed to the forgotten storage building before Matthew could notice. Behind a rusted cabinet, the coordinates identified a section of concrete poured the year Lewis built the range. Jane found a small metal plate beneath layers of dust and entered Rebecca’s birthday as the code.

The wall opened to reveal a hidden communications room filled with military files, financial records, and surveillance photographs. At the center waited a monitor still receiving a live encrypted signal. Jane touched the keyboard, and a man appeared on-screen wearing Lewis’s old unit insignia. “If Carl has been arrested,” he said, “then Matthew finally found the range—and you have less than twenty-four hours before they come for what your father buried beneath it.”
