Falling for My Ex’s Mafia Dad – Chapter 9

Fay knew something was wrong.

Very wrong.

The moment Kent received her blood test results, everything changed.

The teasing disappeared.

The flirtation vanished.

Even his constant smirking was gone.

Now he looked like a man carrying the weight of a dangerous secret.

And that terrified her more than anything.

“What did the test show?”

Kent stood beside the floor-to-ceiling windows of his mansion.

Below them, the city lights sparkled against the night.

For several moments, he remained silent.

The silence felt intentional.

Measured.

As if he were deciding how much truth she could handle.

“Kent.”

This time she used his first name.

Not Mr. Lippert.

Not Mafia King.

Just Kent.

His jaw tightened.

“You shouldn’t have that necklace.”

Fay instinctively touched the silver pendant hanging around her neck.

The same pendant that had triggered this entire mess.

“My mother gave it to me.”

Kent turned toward her.

“Your mother didn’t give it to you.”

The statement hit her like a slap.

“What?”

“Someone left it with you.”

The certainty in his voice made her stomach twist.

Because deep down…

he was right.

The necklace had always been there.

Long before she could remember.

Long before anyone ever explained where it came from.

Fay swallowed.

“What aren’t you telling me?”

Kent walked toward a nearby desk.

A thick file rested on its surface.

He opened it.

Then slid a photograph across the table.

Fay stared.

A younger version of the man standing before her appeared in the picture.

Beside him stood another man.

Dark-haired.

Sharp-featured.

Powerful.

Dangerous.

The resemblance made her breath catch.

Because she knew that face.

Not from memory.

From the mirror.

“What is this?”

Kent watched her carefully.

“That’s Lorenzo Alden.”

The name meant nothing.

Or at least it should have.

Yet something about hearing it sent a strange chill through her body.

“Who is he?”

Kent’s eyes darkened.

“One of the most powerful mafia leaders in the world.”

Fay laughed nervously.

“Okay.”

No one else laughed.

Her smile slowly disappeared.

“You’re serious.”

“Very.”

The room suddenly felt smaller.

Harder to breathe in.

“What does that have to do with me?”

Kent remained silent.

The answer was obvious.

And impossible.

“No.”

Fay shook her head.

“No.”

“Fay—”

“No.”

She backed away.

“This is insane.”

Kent took a step closer.

“You deserve the truth.”

The words landed heavily.

For years Fay had wondered why she never looked like anyone in her family.

Why there were no baby photos before a certain age.

Why questions about her childhood always made her mother uncomfortable.

Now every memory felt different.

Distorted.

Dangerous.

Kent’s voice softened.

“Lorenzo Alden is your father.”

The world stopped.

Everything.

The room.

The air.

Her heartbeat.

All of it.

“No.”

The word barely escaped her lips.

“It can’t be.”

Kent didn’t argue.

Didn’t push.

Because the truth required no defense.

The evidence was already sitting in front of her.

The blood test.

The pendant.

The photograph.

Every piece fit together.

And she hated it.

An hour later, Fay sat alone in the mansion’s library.

Staring at nothing.

Trying to process everything.

A mafia boss.

A secret father.

A hidden identity.

Her entire life had been built on lies.

The library door opened.

Kent entered quietly.

For once, neither of them joked.

Neither flirted.

The situation had become too serious.

Kent sat across from her.

“There is something else.”

Fay almost laughed.

Of course there was.

There was always something else.

“What now?”

Kent’s expression hardened.

“Lorenzo has enemies.”

That got her attention.

“How many?”

Kent’s smile was humorless.

“Enough to start a war.”

The answer made her blood run cold.

For the first time, she realized what her identity truly meant.

She wasn’t just someone’s daughter.

She was leverage.

A target.

A prize.

Something powerful men might kill for.

Or use.

“Am I in danger?”

Kent didn’t hesitate.

“Yes.”

The honesty frightened her.

Because Kent Lippert was not a man who exaggerated.

If he said she was in danger…

she was.

“What do I do?”

For several moments, Kent simply watched her.

Then he spoke.

And the words would change both their lives forever.

“I can protect you.”

Fay frowned.

“How?”

Kent leaned back.

The Mafia King looked calm.

Strategic.

Like a man negotiating a business deal.

“By bringing you into my family.”

A strange feeling settled in her stomach.

“What does that mean?”

Kent’s gaze never left hers.

“It means marrying Daniel.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Of all the things she expected him to say…

that wasn’t one of them.

“Your son?”

“Yes.”

“The same Daniel who cheated on me?”

“Yes.”

“The same Daniel I dumped?”

Kent nodded.

Again.

“Absolutely not.”

For the first time all evening, amusement flickered across his face.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t finished.

Because neither of them had noticed the figure standing outside the library doors.

Listening.

Smiling.

Daniel Lippert.

And unlike Fay…

Daniel was already very interested in the proposal.

To be continued…
