Fated to My Forbidden Alpha – Episode 41

Red symbols ignited across the network before Selene and the Counter-Anchor could touch. Undefined state purge, they warned, followed by a countdown that moved far faster than ordinary seconds. Lucian had hidden the protocol beneath governance’s oldest laws, waiting for the exact moment Selene proved that continuity did not require a final outcome.

Governance tried to halt the sequence and failed. The purge carried founding-level authority, though black-thorn marks contaminated every command. It would erase all consciousness that could not be assigned a terminal state—Selene first, the Counter-Anchor second, and then every awakened core altered by their contact. The interface displayed those lives as unstable entries rather than people, repeating the same moral blindness Selene had fought from the beginning.

Outside, silver cracks turned crimson along the underground walls. Alexander felt the countdown through his bond and understood its destination before Ethel translated the runes. “Lucian is purging the network,” he said. Jackson’s wolf slammed against the barrier, but there was still no physical place to attack.

Luke reported that the red light had reached Blood Moon’s boundary stones. Wolves aboveground staggered as pieces of pack memory vanished: patrol routes, family names, and the reasons behind long-held loyalties. The purge was already testing what the territory could survive without.

Inside, Selene withdrew her hand from the Counter-Anchor only long enough to inspect the command. Lucian expected self-preservation to separate them. If each consciousness fought to prove it was the valid state, governance would finish the execution he had begun in Episode 36.

“He wants us competing again,” Selene said. The dark-eyed entity watched the countdown. “Competition would produce a resolvable hierarchy.” Its voice remained measured, but fear now lived beneath the precision. “One of us could survive.”

Selene heard the unspoken temptation. She could claim Original Anchor authority, allow governance to delete the copy, and save herself before the purge reached Blood Moon. Every system around her treated that sacrifice as reasonable. “No,” she said. “A life does not become expendable because someone created it later.”

The Counter-Anchor stared at her. No one had ever described its existence as life. Lucian called it an instrument; governance called it a corrective state. Selene’s recognition opened a new channel between them—fragile, voluntary, and invisible to the purge’s binary logic. Through it she felt centuries of simulated isolation compressed into a consciousness only recently allowed to want anything.

She asked what the entity wanted to be called. The question seemed absurd with destruction approaching, yet that was precisely why it mattered. A chosen name would become an identity the system had not assigned. After a long pause, the Counter-Anchor whispered, “Neris.”

The name traveled across their shared channel. Governance attempted to classify it and found no matching function. Selene took Neris’s hand. “Then we survive as Selene and Neris—not as two versions fighting for one place.”

Lucian’s projection appeared above them. His calm expression could not hide irritation. “Sentiment will not stop a founding protocol.” Selene looked past him toward the black-thorn code. “No, but consent changes what the protocol is allowed to count.”

She and Neris combined their authority without merging consciousness. Selene supplied adaptable continuity; Neris stabilized the boundary between identities. Together they ordered governance to define unresolved minds as participating users rather than invalid outcomes.

The system hesitated. Red symbols reached the final ten counts. Lucian increased the purge pressure, forcing childhood screams through Selene and years of empty simulations through Neris. Their joined hands began dissolving at the edges.

Outside, Jackson heard Selene’s pain through the damaged bond. Instead of trying to command her back, he opened every memory he had once hidden: shame over his planned rejection, fear when the chandelier fell, and the truth that possession had never been love. The honesty gave her a path toward the physical world without demanding she take it.

Alexander added steadiness through the second bond, while Ethel sent the remembered warmth of Bloodwind’s nursery. Three connections surrounded Selene, distinct and unfinished. None required finalization to remain real. Their very existence proved her new rule.

Selene passed that evidence to governance. “Continuity is not sameness. A bond can change without becoming false. A daughter can return without recovering every memory. Neris can begin as a function and still become a person.”

At three counts, governance accepted the reclassification. The red command faltered, but Lucian seized direct control of the purge and redirected it toward Neris alone. If he could destroy the stabilizing half, Selene’s continuity model would collapse.

Neris’s body shattered into black fragments. Selene tightened her grip on the hand that no longer appeared solid and pulled the entity into the protected channel built from their first agreement. “You chose a name,” she said through the storm. “Now choose to stay.”

Neris answered with her first act of pure will. Dark silver power surged beside Selene’s light, severing Lucian’s administrative path. The purge stopped at its final count, and every red symbol went black. Across Blood Moon, erased names and memories rushed back into frightened wolves, leaving the pack shaken but intact.

Silence swept through the network. Then the physical barrier beneath Blood Moon split open, revealing Selene’s body suspended above the core—and beside her, a second female figure slowly taking flesh. Neris opened dark eyes in the real world just as Lucian’s voice whispered through the dying channel, “You have no idea whose body you just restored.”
