How to Tame a Silver Fox – Episode 30
Bryan’s appearance completed a pattern Harper should have seen earlier. His threats had begun when Chris returned, and his convenient arrival on campus had kept attention fixed on a jealous ex instead of the organization using him.
“He was never working alone,” Harper said. The realization freed her from one lingering doubt: she had not exaggerated the danger or caused his cruelty.
Mark wanted to call federal agents. Chris argued that any visible response could get Maria and Cole killed before help reached the nightclub.
Harper studied the live image. A mirrored wall behind the hostages reflected a red exit sign and part of the private lounge upstairs. She knew the room from the night Chris received Mark’s first call.
“They’re already inside your club,” she said.
Chris checked the security system. Every camera displayed an old recording, but one temperature sensor showed three unexpected heat signatures above the lounge.
They created two copies of Evan’s statement. Mark would enter through the front carrying the false one while Chris and Harper used the service passage connecting the apartment to the club.
“Harper stays here,” Mark said.
“Harper decides,” Chris replied. The correction surprised all three of them.
She chose to go. Maria was her friend, and Bryan understood Harper’s reactions better than anyone else in the room. That knowledge could become a weapon if she controlled it.
Music played downstairs for an empty dance floor as Mark approached the lounge. Sebastian emerged to collect the file, leaving Bryan with the hostages.
Harper stepped from the hidden passage before Chris could stop her. Bryan aimed his gun and smiled. “You always did need someone to rescue you.”
“That’s why you chose me,” she replied. “You needed me frightened so you could feel powerful.” She moved slowly, keeping his attention away from Chris.
Bryan’s smile tightened. Harper continued, naming every time he had mistaken control for love. His anger drew him forward and away from Maria.
Cole kicked the leg of Bryan’s chair into his knee. The gun swung toward him, but Harper threw a metal tray into Bryan’s arm.
Chris surged from the passage and disarmed him. Harper rushed to Maria while security officers entered from the lower stairway.
Sebastian tried to flee, only to find Mark blocking the exit. For one fragile moment, it seemed the trap had closed around the right men.
A shot cracked through the club. Mark fell, blood spreading across his shirt, and Evan Mercer stepped from the shadows holding the smoking gun. “I warned you,” he told Chris. “Saving Mark was always your greatest mistake.”
