True Heiress vs. Fake Queen Bee — Episode 21

Candice stepped into the Kaplan castle beneath a chandelier large enough to illuminate the entire Mathis apartment. Gold light spilled across marble floors, carved pillars, and a staircase that divided toward two private wings. For several breathless seconds, she forgot the students waiting outside and simply stared. This was not the costume of wealth she had rented; it was wealth built into stone.

Dedra closed the main doors and reminded her daughter that they had permission to use only the ballroom and public reception rooms. The temporary code would not open the family wing, and the guests had to leave before the Kaplans returned. Candice waved away every warning. The castle was hers for one night, and she refused to spend it behaving like a maid’s child.

Decorators hired with the last available balance on her credit cards hurried through the foyer. Candice ordered them to move floral arrangements, replace family photographs with party lights, and cover anything that might contradict her invented childhood. Every instruction made Dedra more anxious. Hailey had trusted her with a birthday favor, not permission to erase the family from its own home.

One portrait proved impossible to conceal. It showed Frank Kaplan beside his late wife and a much younger Hailey, all three dressed for a foundation gala. Candice stared at the child’s face and recognized the stubborn eyes of the girl she had tormented at school. Confirmation settled like ice in her stomach.

“You knew,” she accused Dedra. Her mother admitted that Hailey was the true heiress but insisted she had never imagined Candice would claim the identity. She had believed the party was merely an attempt to impress classmates. Candice’s fear hardened into anger because blaming Dedra felt safer than confronting what she had done.

She demanded to know why her mother had not warned her sooner. Dedra reminded Candice that she had refused to explain the situation and had insulted her whenever she asked questions. None of that mattered now. If one guest saw the portrait, Candice’s reign at Western High would end before the cake was cut.

Together they removed the frame and carried it toward a service room. Dedra handled it carefully, whispering an apology to the family whose trust she was violating. Candice noticed only the blank wall left behind. She ordered a decorative banner placed over the lighter rectangle before anyone arrived.

Cars began moving through the outer gates at seven. Students emerged in their best clothes, recording the towers, fountains, and illuminated gardens before they reached the entrance. Gail nearly cried when she saw the foyer. Every astonished reaction restored Candice’s confidence.

She welcomed her guests from the staircase, claiming she had asked the staff to keep the evening casual. Gail praised her humility while servers hired for the party circulated with drinks. No one noticed Dedra staying near the service corridor, dressed in black and terrified that a longtime employee might recognize the fraud.

Candice embellished freely as she led the first guests toward the ballroom. She called paintings by the wrong artists, invented ancestors for unfamiliar portraits, and claimed the west wing held her private suite. Locked doors protected most of the lies. Whenever someone asked to see more, she blamed family security rules.

Outside the estate, CeCe climbed from a rideshare and stared through the gates. She had chosen a simple blue dress and repaired her glasses, yet the grandeur made her feel painfully underdressed. Hailey arrived moments later wearing an elegant black dress that transformed her without appearing designed to impress. CeCe needed several seconds to recognize her.

Hailey apologized for keeping so much secret and promised answers inside. She approached the security station, where the guard immediately stood and addressed her as Miss Hailey. CeCe’s mouth fell open. Every impossible claim from school rearranged itself into a truth no one had bothered to examine.

“You really are Hailey Kaplan,” CeCe whispered. Hailey searched her face for resentment or sudden calculation, the reactions she had feared since the transfer. CeCe only looked hurt that her friend had endured so much while owning the very home Candice was using against her. Then she asked what they were going to do.

Relief loosened something in Hailey’s chest. She told the guard that CeCe was her guest and instructed him not to announce their arrival. She wanted Candice to continue the performance until the lies became visible to everyone. The guard opened the private pedestrian gate without checking a list.

As they walked toward the castle, CeCe asked whether Hailey had arranged the party as a trap. Hailey admitted she had granted Dedra access without knowing the maid’s daughter was Candice. The betrayal still hurt, but she did not know how much pressure Dedra had faced. Tonight would reveal whether the older woman chose honesty or another rescue.

Music pulsed through the walls as they reached the entrance. Hailey used her fingerprint rather than the temporary code, and the lock opened instantly. CeCe noticed the difference. Candice might possess a borrowed password, but the house recognized its owner.

Inside, Hailey stopped at the missing family portrait. The empty hooks and newly placed banner confirmed deliberate concealment. Her curiosity hardened into resolve. Candice was not merely pretending anymore; she was altering the Kaplan home to support the theft.

They entered the ballroom without attracting immediate notice. Luke stood near the terrace doors in a dark suit, apparently invited by a teammate who had brought a guest. He saw Hailey and smiled with open surprise. Before he could approach, Gail spotted the two girls.

“What are they doing here?” Gail shouted. The music continued for another beat before Candice ordered it stopped. Conversations died, and the crowd parted around Hailey and CeCe. Candice stared from the staircase, shock breaking through her hostess smile.

Hailey looked around the ballroom she had known since childhood and then met Candice’s eyes. She had not climbed a fence, forged an invitation, or begged a guard. She had entered through her own front door. As whispers spread through the party, Candice descended the stairs and demanded to know who had dared let the real owner inside.
