Dr. Mercer presented the evidence in chronological order. She showed the administrator’s access to Hailey’s verified enrollment file, the disciplinary reports altered afterward, and the surveillance deletions originating from his office. Each timestamp dismantled his claim of innocent confusion.
The interim administrator insisted he had acted to stabilize the school during Principal Adams’s absence. Publicly switching recognition from one heiress to another, he argued, could have threatened donations and caused chaos. Frank replied that knowingly punishing the real student to protect money was the chaos.
Board members asked why he had not contacted the Kaplan Foundation directly. He admitted fearing that acknowledging the mistake would jeopardize his appointment. The confession exposed a motive smaller than the harm it caused: ambition, embarrassment, and a desire to preserve authority.
Dr. Mercer displayed the reports describing Hailey as aggressive while omitting her injuries and witness statements. The administrator claimed staff had written them under pressure. Mr. Dalton and two other teachers denied receiving any request for complete accounts. His defense continued collapsing.
Candice sat with Dedra and a student advocate at the opposite table. She wore the plain sweater associated with her online videos and claimed the school had encouraged the misunderstanding. That part contained some truth, but it did not explain the watch, castle, bracelet, or exam frame.
Gail’s corrected statement was read aloud. The recovered messages confirmed Candice had ordered the science-office break-in and promised protection in the castle investigation. Candice alleged the phone had been manipulated by Kaplan technicians. Dr. Mercer explained that an independent forensic laboratory verified the backup.
CeCe’s cheating accusation was formally dismissed. The board ordered every reference removed from her permanent record and required written notification to scholarship programs if the allegation had been shared. CeCe gripped Hailey’s hand beneath the table as years of work returned to her control.
The board then suspended the interim administrator pending termination proceedings. An external firm would review every discipline case handled during his tenure, and an acting administrator would assume daily operations. The man who once threatened to expel Hailey left through a side door without looking at her.
Outside the meeting, students received the announcement through official email. Relief and anger moved through the hallway. Some apologized to Hailey again, while others recognized that similar reports might have harmed students without powerful families. The investigation had grown beyond one heiress.
Candice remained subject to a final expulsion hearing. Her advocate requested delay, arguing that administrative misconduct had influenced her behavior and compromised evidence. The board granted only enough time to review Dr. Mercer’s report. A decision would follow within forty-eight hours.
Hailey did not object. She wanted a verdict strong enough to survive appeal rather than a rushed punishment Candice could transform into another persecution story. Luke said patience appeared to be her least dramatic and most infuriating weapon. She accepted the compliment.
Frank arrived with news that Principal Adams had requested to address the board. Medical staff had cleared him for limited work from home, though he remained unable to travel that morning. A large screen was brought into the conference room. Candice’s composure fractured when his name appeared.
Principal Adams greeted Hailey immediately. He confirmed meeting her and Frank at the castle when the donation agreement was signed. Hailey had helped select the science-safety and student-support programs funded by the family. No administrator who reviewed the file could reasonably mistake her identity.
Adams also produced an email sent before the first day of school. It included Hailey’s photograph and instructed senior staff to protect her privacy without denying her identity if safety required disclosure. The interim administrator had acknowledged receipt. His actions had violated an explicit directive.
Board members asked whether Adams could participate in the final disciplinary hearing. He said his recovery had progressed faster than expected and that he planned to return to Western High the following morning. He would resume authority long enough to ensure the proceedings followed policy.
Students watching the authorized replay cheered. The one adult Candice could never deceive was coming back, armed with firsthand knowledge and written evidence. Her social-media narrative could not transform him into a Kaplan employee or hired witness. He had known Hailey before the conflict began.
After the session, Candice locked herself inside a restroom stall and searched for options. Gail had turned, Dedra had confessed, the interim administrator was gone, and Adams would preside over the final hearing. By tomorrow afternoon, she could lose Western High entirely.
She found the travel details in a forwarded staff notice: Adams would arrive through the east entrance at nine, accompanied by a medical transport driver. Candice began drafting messages from a false administrative account, changing the arrival time and directing the driver to a different campus building. Delay might be enough to force another postponement.
Her thumb hovered over the final send button. Preventing Adams from attending would not prove she was an heiress, but it might keep her enrolled long enough to rebuild the lie. Candice pressed send and watched the false instructions leave her phone, unaware that Dr. Mercer’s digital-evidence monitor had just flagged an unauthorized school account.
