The silence in the new house shattered in an instant.

“OH MY GOD!”

Jocelyn West froze in place, eyes wide, her entire face turning crimson.

Standing in front of her was Ray Astor.

Fresh from the shower.

Still dripping slightly.

And very clearly not expecting company.

“Whoa—sorry!” Ray blurted out immediately, stepping back so fast he nearly slipped.

Jocelyn spun around instantly, covering her face.

“I—I’m sorry!”

The air between them turned instantly chaotic, thick with embarrassment.

Ray ran a hand through his damp hair, exhaling hard.

“I’m just used to… walking around like this after showers,” he admitted awkwardly. “I guess I’ve been single for too long.”

Jocelyn peeked over her shoulder for half a second—then immediately looked away again.

“That’s… that’s my fault,” she rushed out. “It’s completely my fault.”

Ray shook his head quickly.

“No, no. You have nothing to be sorry about.”

A beat.

Then, more honestly:

“I just… don’t see that every day.”

That made things even worse.

Jocelyn nearly lost her balance from embarrassment alone.

Then she remembered why she came.

“I called you,” she said quickly, still facing away. “But you didn’t answer, so I came straight over and—”

Ray immediately stepped forward.

“Hey, stop. You don’t have to explain.”

His tone softened.

“You did nothing wrong.”

A pause stretched between them.

Too quiet.

Too intimate.

Too aware.

Ray cleared his throat.

“Uh… could you hand me those underwear?”

Jocelyn froze again.

“…What?”

Ray pointed vaguely behind him, completely serious but still clearly mortified.

“Yeah. Over there.”

Jocelyn moved quickly, grabbing them without looking at anything she definitely shouldn’t look at.

“Here!”

“Thanks.”

Ray reached out—

And at the exact same time—

Their movements collided.

A sudden shift of balance.

A misstep.

A slip on the wet floor.

“Wait—!”

Too late.

They both went down.

Jocelyn stumbled forward.

Ray tried to catch her.

But instead—

They crashed together.

Right onto the sofa.

A tangled, awkward heap of limbs, breath, and panic.

For a split second, neither of them moved.

Too close.

Too still.

Too aware of the heat between them.

Jocelyn’s eyes widened.

Ray’s breath hitched slightly.

“…This is bad,” Jocelyn whispered.

Ray let out a short, strained laugh.

“Yeah,” he agreed. “This is very bad.”

Then she shifted slightly—

Trying to push herself up—

But her hand slipped again.

“Wait—don’t move—”

“Sorry, I—”

Their voices overlapped.

Their bodies shifted again.

Even closer this time.

Ray froze.

Jocelyn froze.

Neither of them spoke.

The room felt suddenly too small.

Too quiet.

Too warm.

Ray exhaled slowly, voice lower now.

“…You’re really making this difficult.”

Jocelyn blinked, flustered.

“I’m not trying to!”

Another small movement.

Another accidental brush.

Both of them stiffened instantly.

Ray closed his eyes for a second.

“Just… stop moving.”

Jocelyn went completely still.

“…Okay.”

And for a moment, neither of them dared to breathe too loudly.

Because somewhere between embarrassment and proximity…

something far more dangerous had started to rise.

And neither the “construction worker” husband…

nor the woman who still didn’t know the truth…

was ready for what came next.
