Chapter 6 – Right On Time

The bathroom suddenly felt too small.

Kaitlyn’s head spun as she leaned against the sink, struggling to stay focused.

Brent stood between her and the door.

His expression was no longer charming.

It was unsettling.

“Kaitlyn,” he said, his voice edged with frustration, “I waited for years.”

She looked at him in disbelief.

“I told you I wanted to wait until I was ready.”

Her breathing remained uneven, but her voice stayed firm.

“And instead of respecting me…”

“…you cheated on me.”

Brent scoffed.

“Oh, come on.”

“Don’t act so innocent.”

His eyes flicked toward the black dress she wore.

“You dressed like this because you wanted attention.”

Kaitlyn’s stomach turned.

“No.”

She shook her head.

“I wore this because it made me feel confident.”

“It has nothing to do with you.”

Brent took another step forward.

“You’ve always been such a tease.”

“Stop.”

She backed away until the sink pressed against her lower back.

“I already told you to leave.”

“I’m not interested.”

“I’m never getting back together with you.”

For the first time, Brent realized she truly meant it.

The girl who used to cry whenever they argued…

…was gone.

That only made him angrier.

Meanwhile…

Cole pushed deeper into the crowded fraternity house.

Students instinctively stepped aside as he walked past.

His expression alone warned everyone not to get in his way.

A group of girls blocked the hallway.

One of them crossed her arms.

“So…”

“The legendary Cole Hart actually showed up.”

She smiled flirtatiously.

“What are you doing looking for a freshman?”

Cole didn’t even glance at her.

“I’m looking for Kaitlyn Sinclair.”

The girl rolled her eyes dramatically.

“Kaitlyn?”

“You mean that girl with the black hair?”

Cole nodded once.

Without hesitation, he answered,

“Five foot two.”

“Black dress.”

“Green eyes.”

“Black eyeliner.”

The girls exchanged surprised looks.

One of them laughed.

“Cole Hart…”

“…the guy who supposedly can’t even remember girls’ names…”

“…knows what eyeliner she’s wearing?”

Another girl smirked.

“You could do a lot better than her.”

Cole finally stopped walking.

His eyes turned ice cold.

“You should be careful.”

His voice remained calm.

“Don’t cross my line.”

The smile disappeared from the girl’s face.

Before anyone else could speak, another student hurried over.

“Wait!”

He pointed toward the hallway.

“I saw her.”

“She went into the bathroom.”

Cole didn’t wait another second.

He broke into a sprint.

Inside the bathroom…

Kaitlyn’s vision blurred again.

She reached for the doorknob, but Brent blocked her path.

“Please…”

She swallowed hard.

“Just leave me alone.”

Her voice trembled—not from weakness, but from anger and fear.

Brent ignored her.

“You owe me—”

The sentence never ended.

BANG!

The bathroom door burst open so hard it slammed against the wall.

Every sound inside the room stopped.

Brent spun around.

Standing in the doorway was Cole.

His chest rose and fell rapidly from running across campus.

His eyes immediately found Kaitlyn.

She looked pale.

Unsteady.

Terrified.

Something inside him snapped.

His gaze shifted to Brent.

“What…”

Cole’s voice was frighteningly quiet.

“…do you think you’re doing?”

The silence that followed felt heavier than the music shaking the walls outside.

For the first time that night…

Brent looked genuinely afraid.
