Falling for My Ex’s Mafia Dad – Chapter 6
The moment Janeen disappeared behind the club’s restricted hallway, Fay knew something was wrong.
Deeply wrong.
She had seen the fear in her sister’s eyes.
The way Janeen flinched whenever Dean spoke.
The way she obeyed even when every instinct told her not to.
No employee should be afraid of their boss.
Not like that.
Not ever.
“Janeen!”
Fay pushed through the crowded dance floor.
The pounding music swallowed her voice.
People danced.
Laughed.
Drank.
Completely unaware that something terrible might be happening just a few rooms away.
Fay hurried toward the hallway.
A security guard stepped into her path.
“Can I help you?”
“Yes.”
Her voice was tight with worry.
“I’m looking for my sister.”
The guard glanced toward the back rooms.
“Oh.”
A strange look crossed his face.
“She went toward the bathrooms.”
Relief briefly flashed through Fay.
“Where?”
The guard pointed down another corridor.
“Right this way.”
“I’ll show you.”
Without thinking, Fay followed.
The hallway grew quieter with every step.
The music faded.
The crowds disappeared.
An uneasy feeling settled in her stomach.
Something wasn’t right.
She stopped walking.
“How much farther?”
The guard turned.
Except now he wasn’t smiling.
And suddenly Fay realized they were completely alone.
The door behind her clicked shut.
A chill raced down her spine.
“What are you doing?”
A familiar voice answered.
“Glad you finally noticed.”
Dean stepped from the shadows.
Fay’s heart dropped.
The guard immediately moved aside.
Of course.
This had been planned.
Every second of it.
“Where’s Janeen?”
Dean ignored the question.
His eyes slowly traveled over her.
The look made her skin crawl.
“You know,” he said casually, “you’re even prettier than your sister.”
Fay took a step backward.
“Stay away from me.”
Dean laughed.
The sound was cold.
Cruel.
“Women like you always think you have choices.”
Fear tightened around her chest.
But she refused to show it.
“Let us go.”
Dean moved closer.
“No.”
“Whatever this is, you don’t want to do it.”
His smile widened.
“Oh, I think I do.”
Fay’s pulse hammered.
She needed a way out.
Fast.
“If it’s money you want—”
Dean paused.
Interesting.
Fay immediately continued.
“I can get money.”
It was a desperate gamble.
“But you have to let me and Janeen leave.”
For a moment, she thought it might work.
Then Dean laughed again.
The sound echoed through the empty hallway.
“You really think this is about money?”
The realization hit her hard.
This wasn’t business.
This was control.
Power.
The same thing Dean had been using against Janeen for who knew how long.
Fear threatened to overwhelm her.
But she forced herself to stay calm.
Think, Fay.
Think.
Dean grabbed her arm.
Hard.
Pain shot through her wrist.
“Let go!”
She struggled.
Dean’s grip tightened.
“No one is coming to help you.”
The words barely left his mouth before another voice cut through the hallway.
Cold.
Controlled.
Deadly.
“Take your hand off her.”
Silence fell instantly.
Dean froze.
Fay froze.
Even the guard looked terrified.
Slowly, everyone turned.
A tall figure stood at the end of the corridor.
Dark suit.
Powerful build.
Unshakable presence.
Kent Lippert.
For one unbelievable second, Fay thought she was imagining him.
The last time she’d seen him, he had been sitting inside a prison cell.
Now he stood before her like he owned the entire city.
Maybe he did.
Kent’s expression never changed.
Yet somehow the temperature in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.
Dean released Fay immediately.
Smart decision.
Unfortunately for him, it was already too late.
Kent approached with slow, deliberate steps.
Every movement radiated authority.
Danger.
The kind of danger that didn’t need to announce itself.
It simply existed.
Dean attempted a nervous smile.
“Mr. Lippert—”
“Don’t.”
The single word silenced him.
Kent stopped beside Fay.
His eyes swept over her face.
Checking for injuries.
Making sure she was unharmed.
The gesture was surprisingly protective.
And strangely comforting.
For the first time since entering the hallway, Fay felt safe.
Dean noticed it too.
Which made him even more nervous.
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with,” Dean muttered.
A faint smile appeared on Kent’s face.
It wasn’t a pleasant smile.
It was the smile of a predator.
“No.”
Kent’s voice was calm.
“You have no idea who you’re dealing with.”
The color drained from Dean’s face.
Because suddenly he understood.
Everyone in the city knew the name Kent Lippert.
The Mafia King.
The man powerful enough to make problems disappear.
And tonight…
Dean had made a very serious mistake.
Kent glanced toward Fay.
“Are you hurt?”
The simple question caught her off guard.
She shook her head.
“No.”
“Good.”
Something dangerous flashed through his eyes.
Then he looked back at Dean.
And Fay had the distinct feeling she wouldn’t want to be in Dean’s position right now.
Not for all the money in the world.
To be continued…
