Hillbilly Girlie Marries a Billionaire – Chapter 4

The rain had not stopped.

It followed Emily like a memory she couldn’t escape—soaking into her clothes, her thoughts, and whatever was left of her pride.

She sat on the cold curb, arms wrapped tightly around herself, as the city blurred into streaks of neon and indifference.

Then—

A car stopped.

Not just any car. Sleek. Black. Quiet in a way that felt expensive.

The door opened.

And Lucas Anderson stepped out.

He looked at her once—and everything around them seemed to sharpen.

“Hey,” he said, voice steady. “Hey, hey… you okay?”

Emily blinked up at him, confused, exhausted.

“It’s you…” she murmured.

Without another word, Lucas crouched slightly and extended a hand.

“Come on.”

She hesitated for only a second before taking it.

Inside the car, warmth replaced the rain. Silence replaced chaos. For the first time that day, Emily felt like she could breathe without being judged for it.

Soon, they arrived at a hotel.

Lucas’s assistant opened the door.

“Ma’am,” he said politely, “my boss booked you a room here. Feel free to rest. And if you need anything, the front desk is at your service.”

Emily stepped out slowly, still processing.

A room.

A bed.

Warmth.

She looked back at Lucas, who remained inside the car, unreadable as always.

Then her eyes caught something.

His jacket.

It had slipped slightly when he helped her earlier.

“Oh—your jacket!” she called.

But Lucas only gave a slight shake of his head.

“It’s fine.”

And just like that, the car began to move again.

Emily stood there in the hotel entrance, holding onto the moment a little too long.

“We’ll probably never see each other again…” she whispered to herself.

Then, with a small, tired smile:

“But I did help him today too… so I guess we’re even.”

Inside the moving car, Lucas stared out at the rain.

Even.

The word lingered in his mind longer than expected.

Across the city…

Steel towers. Silent boardrooms. Decisions that shaped empires.

Lucas Anderson stood in a vast office, surrounded by advisors who looked uncomfortable just being near him.

An older voice cut through the tension.

“You’re 28, for God’s sake! If you don’t settle down soon, I’ll have no choice but to hand the family business to your brother Noah!”

Lucas didn’t react.

Didn’t flinch.

Didn’t argue.

He simply exhaled once.

Then turned slightly.

“Adam,” he said calmly, “I need you to find me a contract wife.”

Silence.

One of the assistants blinked. “Any requirements, sir?”

Lucas paused for a fraction of a second.

Then spoke.

“Someone unrelated to politics. No emotional baggage tied to high society. Clean background. Simple.”

A contract.

Not love.

Not romance.

Just control.

Meanwhile…

Emily stood in her hotel room, staring at the bed like it might disappear if she blinked too hard.

Her phone suddenly buzzed.

Unknown number.

She answered cautiously.

A man’s voice came through—professional, distant.

“Ms. Davis?”

“Yes?”

A pause.

Then the words that froze her completely:

“Your mother’s medical bills are overdue. Also… $500,000 to be a surrogate?”

Emily’s grip tightened on the phone.

“W-what…?”

Outside her window, the city lights flickered like nothing had changed.

But for Emily—

Everything just did.
