The Virgin’s Bucket List – Episode 01
Lindsay Johnson had spent the first morning of senior year watching romance bloom everywhere except at her desk. Couples leaned into each other in the hallway, trading secret smiles and sharing earbuds as if the entire world had been designed for two. Even the announcements about college applications sounded romantic when the boy behind her whispered them into his girlfriend’s hair. Lindsay lowered her gaze to her notebook and reminded herself that she still had one year left to stop feeling like an observer in her own life.
At eighteen, she had mastered good grades, quiet lunches, and the art of becoming invisible whenever the popular crowd passed. What she had never mastered was talking to a boy without second-guessing every word. She did not need a fairy-tale wedding or some impossible promise of forever. She wanted one honest romance before graduation—one chance to know what everyone else seemed to understand without trying.
Her pen hovered over the page beneath the words BUCKET LIST. Lindsay had already written ordinary goals: apply to her dream college, take a road trip, and stop letting fear make her decisions. Then, cheeks warming even though nobody was supposed to see, she added the wish that frightened her most. Before graduation, she wanted to fall in love, find a boyfriend, and lose her virginity because she chose to—not because everyone else made her feel late.
The notebook vanished from beneath her hand. Lindsay looked up to find Alyssa holding it above her head, a cruel smile already spreading across her perfectly made-up face. Two cheerleaders crowded beside her, eager for whatever humiliation their captain had discovered. “Let’s see what little loser Lindsay is writing about,” Alyssa announced, loud enough to turn heads across the classroom.
One of the girls laughed that Lindsay was probably calculating the probability of ever getting a date. Heat raced up Lindsay’s neck as she rose and reached for the notebook, but Alyssa stepped back with practiced ease. “Give it back,” Lindsay said. She tried to keep her voice steady, though every curious glance made her feel as if the floor had disappeared beneath her.
Alyssa opened to the marked page and gasped theatrically. “Oh my God. You want to lose your virginity before graduation?” Her voice rang through the room, followed by a wave of shocked laughter. She looked Lindsay up and down with exaggerated disbelief. “You’re still a virgin?”
The word should not have felt like an accusation, yet Alyssa wielded it like one. Lindsay could have lowered her head and waited for the moment to pass, as she had done too many times before. Instead, something hard and exhausted rose inside her. She was tired of apologizing for choices that belonged to no one else.
Alyssa pointed toward a heavier boy sitting alone and announced that she had found the perfect match. “Maybe if you cover your ugly face in chocolate, you’ll have a shot.” The boy immediately stared at his desk, and Lindsay’s embarrassment sharpened into anger on his behalf. Alyssa never mocked only one person when she could wound two at once.
“I’m not like you,” Lindsay replied, snatching at the courage before it vanished. “I don’t fall for guys as terrible as your boyfriends.” The room quieted with startling speed. Nobody contradicted Alyssa in public, least of all Lindsay Johnson.
Alyssa’s smile tightened. “Are you saying I have bad taste in men?” She took a deliberate step closer, expecting Lindsay to retreat. Her friends watched with open delight, certain that fear would restore the natural order of their school.
Lindsay’s pulse thudded in her ears, but she refused to look away. “I’m saying it isn’t my fault your two-timing ex-boyfriends gave you an STD.” A few students choked back laughter, while others openly stared. For one glorious second, Alyssa seemed unable to find a response.
That second cost Lindsay more than she knew. Humiliation flashed across Alyssa’s face before it hardened into calculation. She glanced at the bucket list again, no longer interested in a quick insult. If Lindsay wanted to fight back, Alyssa would make certain the entire school watched her lose.
“What was that, Lindsay?” Alyssa asked with poisonous sweetness. She raised the notebook and pretended to discover another entry. “You’re going to get a boyfriend with an eight-pack and make out with him in front of the entire school?” Excited murmurs spread through the room before Lindsay could deny it.
Alyssa continued building the lie with the confidence of someone accustomed to being believed. If Lindsay failed to accomplish the impossible before the semester ended, she would have to run around campus naked for everyone to see. Phones were already appearing in students’ hands. By lunch, the invented challenge would be treated as fact.
“I never said that,” Lindsay protested, but her words were swallowed by laughter. Alyssa’s friends declared that Lindsay could not even attract someone from the robotics team, much less a boy with perfect abs. Each joke reduced her to the same humiliating labels—prudish, unwanted, invisible.
Lindsay saw exactly what Alyssa expected her to do. She was supposed to beg, deny, and flee while everyone recorded her shame. If she refused the challenge, Alyssa would still tell the school she had accepted and then backed down. There was no safe escape, only a choice between surrendering now and risking humiliation later.
“Who said I wouldn’t agree?” Lindsay heard herself ask. The room fell quiet again, but this silence felt different. Terror twisted through her stomach as Alyssa slowly lowered the notebook, studying her with renewed interest.
Alyssa stepped close enough for only Lindsay to see the triumph in her eyes. “I guess we’ll see, won’t we?” she murmured, then repeated the terms for everyone: an eight-pack boyfriend and a public kiss, or a naked run across campus before the semester ended. The class erupted around them while Lindsay stood trapped by her own defiance, wondering how on earth an invisible girl was supposed to find the perfect boyfriend before time ran out.
