True Heiress vs. Fake Queen Bee — Episode 12

Rubber balls thundered against the gym walls as Hailey’s team sprang into motion. Trey darted toward the center, drew two throws, and dropped at the last instant. The balls sailed over him, allowing another blue player to retrieve them. Candice’s athletes shouted in frustration, unprepared for opponents who refused to stand where expected.

CeCe remained near the back line, counting under her breath. One red player always paused after catching; another looked toward the target before winding up. She called their patterns to Hailey, who relayed quick directions across the court. The plan transformed panic into movement and movement into confidence.

Hailey caught the first ball thrown directly at her. The impact stung her palms, but the red thrower was eliminated, and a roar of surprise swept the gym. Her teammates celebrated for only a second before returning to formation. Across the line, Candice’s smile disappeared.

Gail demanded the ball and hurled it toward Hailey’s injured knee. Hailey pivoted just in time, feeling the air move against her leg. The deliberate aim confirmed that fair play had never been Candice’s intention. She retrieved the rebound and returned it hard enough to force Gail behind another teammate.

One by one, red players began leaving the court. Hailey’s side lost students too, but every elimination tightened their coordination. The teenagers Candice had called losers stopped flinching and began trusting one another. Even the students on the bleachers grew quieter as the expected humiliation failed to arrive.

Candice shouted at her team to stop playing around. She could not accept that strategy might outweigh strength because the entire identity she had built depended on appearances determining value. Losing to Hailey would undermine more than a game. It would give the school permission to question which girl truly belonged on top.

She snatched a ball from Gail and searched for Hailey. CeCe moved across her line of sight at the wrong moment, calling out an approaching throw. Candice’s expression sharpened as she chose a target who looked easier to punish. She launched the ball with all her force.

The shot struck CeCe before she could turn. Her glasses flew sideways, and she collapsed against the floor with a cry. Coach Rivera blew the whistle and called her out, treating the hit as an ordinary elimination. Laughter burst from Gail while Candice offered a false apology.

Hailey ran to CeCe and crouched beside her. A red mark spread across her shoulder, and humiliation trembled in her voice as she said she was fine. She reached for her glasses with hands that did not quite obey. The sight extinguished the last of Hailey’s restraint.

Coach Rivera ordered eliminated players off the court so the game could continue. Hailey helped CeCe to the sideline and promised this was not over. CeCe caught her hand before she stood, warning that anger was exactly what Candice wanted. Hailey nodded, though fury still burned beneath her skin.

When play resumed, Hailey stopped looking merely defensive. She moved toward the center and caught a throw intended for Trey, bringing CeCe back into the game under the rules. The blue team cheered as CeCe returned, bruised but smiling. Candice stared at Hailey with open hatred.

The renewed team surrounded CeCe protectively, turning Candice’s cruelty into shared purpose. They called warnings faster, passed balls instead of competing for throws, and eliminated another red athlete. The scoreboard narrowed until only a handful of players remained on either side. The gym’s chants faded into tense silence.

Gail managed to strike Trey in the hip, sending him off the court. A second throw eliminated the player beside Hailey. Within moments, Hailey and CeCe stood against Candice and two stronger teammates. The odds looked poor again, and Candice’s confidence returned.

She ordered her teammates to corner CeCe while she dealt with Hailey. The command was loud enough for everyone to hear. Hailey positioned herself between the incoming balls and her friend, catching one but losing balance as another clipped her shoulder. Because it struck after the catch, the coach ruled her safe and removed the thrower.

Only Gail and Candice remained on the red side. CeCe whispered that Gail always aimed where her target was already looking, while Candice aimed for injuries. Hailey used the observation to design their final sequence. She told CeCe to trust her and move on the third count.

Gail charged first, gripping a ball in both hands. Hailey looked deliberately toward the left, and CeCe shifted right as planned. Gail followed Hailey’s gaze and threw into the open space, exposing herself. CeCe caught the ball against her chest with a startled gasp.

Coach Rivera called Gail out. The blue team erupted, and Gail stormed toward the sideline, blaming everyone except herself. Candice now stood alone across from Hailey and CeCe. She held the final ball as if it were a weapon rather than part of a school game.

Candice told CeCe to get out of the way. When CeCe refused, Candice promised she would regret choosing Hailey. The threat made Hailey step forward. She had tolerated attacks on her clothes, name, and reputation, but targeting a friend crossed a boundary Candice did not understand.

“You’re going to pay for what you did to her,” Hailey said. Candice laughed and called her a dirt-poor little maggot, then asked whether she truly believed she could win. The insult echoed through a gym that no longer seemed eager to laugh with her.

Hailey lowered her center of gravity and fixed her eyes on the ball. She did not think she could beat Candice; after everything she had seen, she knew it. Candice drew back her arm for the final throw, and Hailey waited for the fraction of a second that would decide which girl left the court standing.
