True Heiress vs. Fake Queen Bee — Episode 24
The sealed doors transformed the party into a locked room filled with accusation. Red lights flashed above the jewelry cabinet while the castle’s security system instructed everyone to remain where they were. Candice clutched the Cartier watch and stared at Hailey as though she had caught a thief in the act. Gail demanded that someone search her bag.
Hailey looked toward the empty velvet stand. The diamond bracelet had belonged to her grandmother and was normally secured inside a pressure-sensitive case. She had not authorized its display for the party. Someone had entered the reception room using Dedra’s temporary access.
“No one touches my things,” Hailey said. Candice laughed at the choice of words and asked whether she meant the bag or the jewelry she intended to steal. The crowd’s uncertainty shifted again. A visible missing diamond carried more emotional force than a portrait they had only begun to understand.
Luke stepped in front of Hailey and told Candice to stop turning every problem into an attack. CeCe joined him, insisting Hailey had been with them when the alarm sounded. Gail pointed out that Hailey had moved through the corridor only minutes earlier. The timeline was vague enough to support either story.
The security manager entered through a staff door with two guards. He recognized Hailey immediately but paused when she gave a slight shake of her head. She wanted the accusation handled through evidence, not ended by an employee’s deference that Candice could dismiss as another trick. The manager announced that all bags would be checked.
Candice protested that a Kaplan should not be searched in her own home. Hailey replied that an innocent person had nothing to fear from the same rule imposed on everyone else. The challenge trapped Candice into agreeing. Gail gripped her purse nervously, though the stolen bracelet was no longer inside it.
Guests placed their belongings on a long table. Lipstick, phones, keys, and perfume emerged beneath the guards’ careful inspection. Each cleared bag increased the pressure around Hailey. Candice maintained a look of wounded dignity while watching the line advance.
CeCe whispered that the situation felt staged. Hailey agreed. The alarm had sounded only after the portrait was uncovered, precisely when Candice needed a distraction. She searched her memory for anyone who had moved near her evening bag during the argument and remembered Gail brushing past.
Her turn arrived. Hailey opened the bag herself and removed her phone, keys, and a small makeup case. Nothing else appeared at first. Then the guard checked the inner pocket and drew out a diamond bracelet that scattered light across the room.
Shock struck even Hailey silent. She had known Candice was framing her, yet seeing her grandmother’s jewelry emerge from her own bag created a moment of unreality. Gail gasped on cue. Candice covered her mouth and asked how a poor girl could become so shameless.
The guests erupted in whispers. Candice gave the portrait, fingerprint scanner, and piano a darker interpretation: perhaps Hailey knew the castle because she had been stalking the family to steal from it. She declared that every strange detail now made sense. Hailey had planned the entire invasion.
CeCe insisted someone must have planted the bracelet. Candice mocked her loyalty and asked whether she intended to sing the periodic table until security surrendered. Luke told Candice to leave CeCe out of it. His anger drew several students back from the accusation.
Hailey asked the security manager to pull footage from the reception room and ballroom. Cameras covered every public corridor, and the bracelet cabinet recorded access events. Objective evidence would show who removed the jewelry and who touched her bag. Candice’s confidence faltered before she hid it.
Dedra stepped forward and said the cameras might have been disabled for guest privacy. Hailey stared at her in disbelief. No such request had been included when she granted permission, and only an employee with system knowledge could alter the setting. Dedra’s attempt to protect Candice was becoming active sabotage.
The security manager checked his tablet. Several feeds had indeed gone offline twelve minutes earlier under the temporary host credential. The same credential belonged to Dedra. Every eye turned toward the maid, who looked as though the floor might open beneath her.
Candice immediately blamed Hailey. She claimed Hailey must have stolen Dedra’s code, disabled the cameras, and planted evidence throughout the house. The theory demanded impossible access and planning, but repetition made it sound almost coherent. Gail supported every word.
Hailey asked Dedra one direct question: had she disabled the cameras? Tears gathered in the older woman’s eyes. She wanted to confess that Candice had demanded privacy for a birthday surprise, but admitting that would connect her daughter to the theft. She said she could not remember.
The answer wounded Hailey more than an open lie. She had defended Dedra, trusted her with the castle, and protected her dignity when Candice called her a servant. Now the woman would not offer even the truth needed to prevent a false arrest. Hailey’s sympathy began hardening into consequence.
The security manager explained that police procedure required preserving the bracelet and identifying whoever possessed it. Candice demanded that Hailey be arrested immediately. Luke argued that possession alone proved nothing when dozens of people had access to the bag. The room divided around them.
Hailey looked at the tablet and noticed one camera indicator still glowing green. Candice had disabled the obvious feeds, but she did not know the portrait storage room contained a conservation camera with its own network. That lens faced the service corridor and the table where Hailey’s bag had rested. She asked the manager to open the hidden archive, and Gail’s face turned white.
