Noah entered the soundstage quietly and found Alaina beside the director’s monitor. On set, two actors rehearsed the confession she had written from emotions he recognized.
The scene was not about them, yet fragments of their history lived inside every careful line.
Alaina noticed him after the first take. Pleasure brightened her face before professional focus returned.
“I’m sorry about the schedule,” she said during the lighting reset.
“Don’t apologize for working.” Noah looked around the crowded set. “This is yours.”
The simple acknowledgment mattered. He was not evaluating the production or measuring its value. He was witnessing it.
The actors performed the scene again. When they kissed, Noah kept his attention on Alaina’s reaction rather than the stage romance.
She watched with a creator’s concentration, adjusting rhythm and emotional clarity. Her work had transformed private regret into something useful.
After filming, they walked along the waterfront. Their limited time made every moment tempting to romanticize.
Noah told her about Triple AI without hiding the strain of returning after censure. Alaina described the compromises of production without pretending independence felt effortless.
“This is less glamorous than our photograph suggested,” she said.
“I prefer it.”
They ate takeout on a bench. The meal cost less than the drinks at Noah’s hotel, but neither felt the need to prove anything.
When the wind sharpened, he placed his coat around her shoulders. Alaina accepted the care because it did not demand repayment.
“You asked me to kiss you when I came home,” Noah said.
“I’m not home yet.”
He smiled. “I noticed.”
Alaina leaned closer, then stopped. Wanting him was no longer the question. The question was whether they could carry that desire without rushing past what remained broken.
Noah kissed her forehead and stepped back. The restraint made her want him more.
His phone rang before they separated. Aaron’s message was brief: Courtney Fox planned to broadcast an investigation into the real reason Alaina left him.
