The moment she walked into homeroom, whispers followed her like a royal procession.
Students moved aside to let her pass.

And Candice loved every second of it.
This was what she deserved.
Or at least, what she believed she deserved.
Their teacher, Miss Darci, stepped to the front of the classroom.
“May I have everyone’s attention, please?”
The room immediately quieted.
“Since we have a transfer student joining us, why don’t you introduce yourself?”
Candice stood gracefully.
She had been waiting for this moment.
A confident smile spread across her face.
“My name is Candice Kaplan.”
Several students gasped.
Even though the rumor had already spread, hearing it directly felt different.
Real.
Official.
Powerful.
Candice continued.
“And yes…”
She paused dramatically.
“I’m the Kaplan heiress.”

“No way!”

But Candice quickly interrupted.
“It’s okay.”
Her voice was gentle.

The kind of voice people trusted immediately.
“I’m sure she didn’t mean anything by it.”
She glanced at Hailey.
Then smiled.
“I’m sure she’s just jealous.”
The classroom nodded instantly.

That made perfect sense.
Why else would a poor girl laugh at a billionaire heiress?
“Well,” Miss Darci said warmly, “that’s very generous of you, Candice.”
The teacher beamed.
“That’s exactly how an heiress should behave.”
Candice nearly laughed.
If only you knew.
Instead, she nodded humbly.
“Thank you.”
Inside, she was celebrating.
Everything was going perfectly.
Too perfectly.
Then she got an idea.
A dangerous one.
“If we’re talking about generosity…”
The classroom immediately paid attention.
Candice stood proudly.
“I’ve decided to throw an exclusive birthday party tonight.”
The room exploded.
“A birthday party?!”
“No way!”
“Seriously?!”
Candice smiled.
“Invite only.”
More excitement.
“It’ll be at my favorite restaurant.”
Students nearly lost their minds.
Everyone wanted an invitation.

Almost everyone.
Candice’s gaze landed on Hailey.
“Of course…”
She deliberately paused.
“Some people won’t be getting an invite.”
The message was obvious.
The classroom laughed.
Gail practically clapped.
“I have standards, after all.”
The laughter became louder.
“Yeah,” Tiffany added. “No discount-rack shoppers allowed.”
More laughter.
“She’s probably going dumpster diving for dinner anyway.”
The girls nearly fell out of their seats laughing.
Hailey remained calm.
Completely calm.
Which somehow annoyed Candice even more.
You can insult her.
Humiliate her.
Exclude her.
And she still won’t react.
Why?
Candice narrowed her eyes.
Then Hailey finally spoke.
And everything changed.
“Actually…”
The room quieted immediately.
Hailey casually leaned back in her chair.
A thoughtful expression crossed her face.
“I heard the Kaplans have a castle.”
The classroom froze.
Even Candice blinked.
A castle?
Hailey continued innocently.
“So I’m sure everyone would love to see what that looks like.”
For one second…
Nobody spoke.
Then realization spread through the room.
“Oh my God!”
“She’s right!”
“The Kaplan Castle!”
“I’ve always wanted to see it!”
“That would be amazing!”
The excitement doubled instantly.

The teacher looked directly at Candice.

The room erupted with cheers.

Students immediately started chanting.
Candice’s smile froze.
Completely froze.
Inside, panic exploded.

What castle?
She didn’t own a castle.
She didn’t own a mansion.
She barely owned the outfit she was wearing.
The luxury car was due back tomorrow.
Her credit cards were maxed out.
And now an entire school expected her to host a birthday party at a billionaire family’s estate.
Her pulse skyrocketed.
The chanting grew louder.
“Castle! Castle! Castle!”
Candice forced a smile.
A very painful smile.
Meanwhile, across the classroom, Hailey quietly watched.
For the first time all day…
She smiled.
Because unlike everyone else in the room, she knew exactly what would happen next.
