The Alpha Queen Returns – Chapter 2

The clinic remained silent long after General Sarabeth knelt before Jessica.

The council guard who had arrogantly bullied patients moments earlier was dragged away by soldiers, begging desperately for mercy.

“Please, Your Majesty! I can explain!”

His cries faded into the distance.

Jessica didn’t even glance in his direction.

Instead, she fixed her gaze on Sarabeth.

“Is this how your soldiers behave?” she asked coldly. “Bullying civilians and acting like tyrants?”

Sarabeth lowered her head further.

“I’m sorry, Your Majesty. I’ll make sure it never happens again.”

Only then did Jessica’s expression soften slightly.

For years, she had fought to build a kingdom where ordinary wolves could live in peace. Seeing those ideals corrupted by power-hungry officials disgusted her.

But Sarabeth hadn’t come to discuss one arrogant guard.

She had come with a much larger problem.

“Now tell me,” Jessica said. “Why are you here?”

Sarabeth rose to her feet.

Her face grew serious.

“Your Majesty, rogue wolves are attacking settlements across the borders.”

She paused.

“The peace you fought so hard to create is beginning to crumble.”

Jessica remained silent.

“The people are frightened. The council is divided. We need a strong and wise leader.”

Sarabeth stepped forward.

“You must return and reclaim the throne.”

The room seemed to grow heavier.

For a moment, memories flooded Jessica’s mind.

Battlefields soaked in blood.

Countless warriors lost.

Years of endless war.

She had sacrificed everything to unite the kingdom.

Everything.

Including her chance at a normal life.

“No.”

The answer came instantly.

Sarabeth’s eyes widened.

“Your Majesty—”

“I fought enough battles for one lifetime.”

Jessica’s voice carried a quiet exhaustion that few had ever heard from the legendary Alpha Queen.

“Now I only want to live peacefully with my daughter.”

The mention of Caroline brought warmth to her eyes.

“She’s the future that matters to me.”

Jessica turned toward the clinic window.

“I sent Caroline to live with the Russo Family Pack.”

Sarabeth frowned.

“The Russos?”

Jessica nodded.

“They promised she would have a normal childhood. No politics. No wars. No royal duties.”

A faint smile touched her lips.

“For the first time, she’ll get to live like an ordinary girl.”

Sarabeth listened carefully.

“And what about the other children in the kingdom?” she asked quietly.

Jessica froze.

“What?”

“The children being attacked by rogue wolves.”

Sarabeth’s voice grew softer.

“Are they living normal lives?”

The question struck harder than any weapon.

Jessica’s jaw tightened.

“The people still need you, Your Majesty.”

For a brief moment, conflict flashed across Jessica’s face.

But it vanished almost immediately.

“My decision is final.”

The temperature in the room seemed to drop.

“Leave.”

Sarabeth knew better than to argue further.

She bowed deeply.

“As you wish, Your Majesty.”

The soldiers began withdrawing from the clinic.

But before leaving, Sarabeth pulled one of her most trusted warriors aside.

A young female soldier stepped forward.

“Mina.”

“Yes, General.”

Sarabeth glanced back toward Jessica.

“If the Queen refuses to return because of her daughter…”

Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully.

“Then we need to know whether Caroline truly has the life Jessica believes she has.”

Mina immediately understood.

“You want me to investigate.”

Sarabeth nodded.

“Go to the Russo Family Pack.”

“Make sure the princess is living that happy life the Queen sacrificed everything for.”

“Yes, General.”

Without hesitation, Mina departed.

Hours later, she arrived at the Russo estate.

The moment she entered the grounds, something felt wrong.

Very wrong.

The mansion was luxurious.

The servants were busy.

The family appeared wealthy.

Yet the atmosphere carried a strange tension.

Then Mina spotted a young girl kneeling beside a pile of dirty laundry.

Her clothes were worn.

Her hands were red from scrubbing.

And despite her obvious exhaustion, she continued working silently.

Mina watched in confusion.

Could this really be the princess?

A spoiled-looking girl nearby tossed another basket of clothes at her.

“Get these washed now, stupid maid!”

The exhausted girl lowered her head.

“Yes.”

“Be quick!” the other girl snapped. “There’s still more work waiting.”

Mina’s eyes widened.

The young servant looked familiar.

Far too familiar.

Then another child approached carrying food.

“You want some?” the child asked kindly.

Before the servant girl could answer, the spoiled girl laughed cruelly.

“In your dreams, stupid maid.”

The food was pulled away.

The servant girl’s stomach growled, but she said nothing.

She simply returned to work.

Hidden in the shadows, Mina stared in disbelief.

Because the exhausted “maid” wasn’t a servant at all.

She was Princess Caroline.

The daughter Queen Jessica had entrusted to the Russo family.

And instead of living a happy, normal life…

She was being treated like a slave.
