Hillbilly Girlie Marries a Billionaire – Chapter 5
The hospital letter arrived like a verdict.
Final notice.
Emily stood in the cramped hotel room, hands trembling as she read the words over and over again, as if repetition could change their meaning. But it didn’t. It never did.
Her mother’s treatment costs were still climbing.
Time had officially run out.
And Emily… had nothing left to sell except herself.
“I don’t have a choice anymore…” she whispered.
Her voice cracked in the empty room. “This is my only way out.”
Across the city, Lucas Anderson’s world moved in clean, controlled lines—glass offices, silent authority, decisions made without hesitation.
“Boss,” his assistant said, opening the door, “the candidate for your contract wife is waiting inside.”
Lucas gave a short nod.
“Bring her in.”
The moment Emily stepped into the room—
Everything stopped.
And for a second, neither of them spoke.
“It’s you…” Emily said softly.
Lucas narrowed his eyes slightly.
“It’s you.”
A beat of silence.
Something invisible shifted between them—misunderstanding, coincidence, fate pretending to be logistics.
Lucas assumed she was the woman selected to become his contract wife.
Emily assumed he was the man who needed a surrogate.
Neither of them corrected the other.
Lucas spoke first, calm and businesslike.
“My assistant should have explained the requirements. I’ll need you to take this job seriously.”
Emily nodded quickly. “Yes, I understand. I’m ready.”
“And as for the price…” he added, studying her carefully, “name it.”
Emily swallowed.
Money. Of course.
Everything always came back to money.
She glanced down. “We both need to contribute, I guess…”
Lucas blinked once.
“Contribute?”
Emily hesitated. “Should we go to the hospital now, or—”
“HOSPITAL?” Lucas repeated.
He paused.
Then, as if correcting something obvious, he said, “We’re going to my house.”
Emily stiffened.
“Your house?” she asked nervously. “Is your wife okay with that?”
Lucas stared at her.
“You are my wife.”
Silence.
The words didn’t land softly.
They crashed.
Emily’s mind froze.
Wife?
Her eyes widened. “Wait—what? I have to marry him to be a surrogate?”
Lucas frowned slightly. “It’s part of the job.”
Emily stepped back half a step. “No surgery? Does he expect us to… have a child the natural way?”
Her voice cracked on the last word.
Lucas didn’t answer immediately. He simply watched her—calm, unreadable, dangerously composed.
Before anything could be clarified—
The door behind them opened.
A woman stepped in.
Elegant. Confident. Perfectly styled like she had rehearsed this moment.
“Oh,” she said lightly, spotting Lucas. “Hi… I thought you were already in there.”
She smiled, eyes flicking toward Emily like she was an inconvenience.
“My boss is inside. Follow me.”
Emily frowned. “Boss?”
Lucas didn’t move.
The woman straightened her posture, lowering her voice as if revealing a secret victory.
“He won’t be able to resist me. Once he sees my face, I’ll have him wrapped around my finger.”
Emily blinked slowly.
“…What?”
A moment later.
Inside the car.
The assistant turned the steering wheel sharply.
“Adam, take us to the registry office,” Lucas said evenly.
“Uh—what?” the assistant choked.
Lucas didn’t look away from the window.
“Now.”
And behind him, two completely different misunderstandings were already on a collision course—
One contract wife.
One surrogate agreement.
And neither of them had any idea…
they were about to marry the wrong story.
