Fated to My Forbidden Alpha – Chapter 8
Selene sat alone in her small room at the edge of Blood Moon territory.
The walls were decorated for her birthday, yet she barely noticed them.
Cake.
Candles.
Gifts.
All meaningless.
Today marked her eighteenth birthday, the day every wolf dreamed of—yet Selene felt no joy.
A sudden warmth spread through her chest.
A voice echoed in her mind, soft but unmistakable.
“Selene… it’s me.”
Her eyes widened.
“Who—who’s there?”
“It’s me. Lyla. Your wolf.”
Selene’s heart skipped a beat. She had never expected to hear her wolf speak so clearly, so personally.
“My… my wolf?” she whispered, trembling.
“Yes. I’ve always been here. And now, I can finally speak with you.”
Lyla’s presence was comforting, familiar, and powerful all at once. Selene instinctively pressed a hand to her chest.
“You… you’re real?”
“Yes, Selene. And there’s something you must know.”
Her wolf’s words hung in the air.
“About… our mate?” Selene asked, hope and fear tangled together.
“Yes. We have a mate,” Lyla replied softly. “He’s here. Right now.”
Selene’s breath caught. “Here?”
“Yes. Your mate… Jackson Richford. Alpha of Blood Moon Pack.”
The name slammed into her like a wave.
“No… that’s not… that can’t be…” Her voice trembled. “You’re joking.”
“It’s true,” Lyla said firmly. “I’ve known for years. You didn’t sense it before because your wolf had not awakened. But now—he’s your fated mate.”
Selene shook her head. “No. This… this isn’t possible. He’s… he’s Jackson. He’s cruel. He dismisses me, belittles me. I can’t… I don’t want this.”
Lyla’s voice softened. “Selene, your wolf, your heart, your fate… it doesn’t lie. You have a mate. And you can’t ignore it forever.”
Selene’s chest tightened. “I… I don’t believe you. Maybe this is some trick. Some… dream.”
The warmth in her chest grew stronger, pressing insistently. Lyla’s presence wrapped around her like a comforting cloak.
“Check for yourself,” Lyla urged. “He’s close. He knows. He… he’s been avoiding it, but he can’t deny it anymore.”
Selene’s mind raced. Images of Jackson flashed before her eyes—the Alpha who had always dismissed her, the one she feared and resented.
“Jackson? My mate?” she whispered, disbelief coating every syllable.
“Yes,” Lyla replied, calm but firm. “The bond exists whether you accept it or not. He is your mate. And he will reject you.”
Selene’s eyes widened. “Reject me? Why? I… I don’t understand.”
“You’ll see,” Lyla said softly. “He doesn’t want it. But that doesn’t change the truth. Your bond is real. Your mate is real.”
Selene’s hands trembled. Anger, fear, and confusion surged within her. “I… I refuse it. I won’t accept it! He… he’s cruel. He’s my Alpha… but I can’t… I won’t!”
The room darkened slightly as if the house itself sensed her turmoil.
A firm knock at the door startled her.
“Selene,” Jackson’s voice called from the other side. “Open this door. Now.”
Her heart raced. Everything Lyla had told her swirled violently with doubt and terror. She swallowed, trembling. Slowly, she rose and walked to the door.
Jackson stood there, tall and imposing, his presence undeniable. His golden eyes locked onto hers.
“Yes,” he said quietly, almost painfully, “I… I am your mate. And I… will reject you.”
Selene’s chest constricted. Her wolf roared inside her, a fierce, protective, insistent warning. Lyla nudged her mind, steadying her.
“Selene,” Lyla whispered, “this is only the beginning. Trust yourself. Your strength is awakening.”
Selene’s knees trembled. Fear and defiance battled within her. She lifted her chin, meeting Jackson’s gaze.
“I may be your mate,” she said, her voice quivering but resolute, “but I am not yours to break. Not now. Not ever.”
Jackson’s jaw tightened. His own wolf growled beneath the surface. The tension between them was palpable.
Outside, the Blood Moon Pack slept, unaware that fate had just begun its irrevocable move. Two mates, bound by destiny, were finally facing the truth—and neither would walk away unchanged.
Tomorrow, the engagement party would bring Alexander Kane to their doorstep—and the bonds, rivalries, and secrets that had been brewing for years would finally collide.
