How to Tame a Silver Fox – Episode 09
While Christina carried Harper’s diary downstairs, Becca moved to keep Chris from interfering. She glanced through the doorway and pretended to spot something outside. “I think I saw Harper go out there with a guy.”
Chris reacted exactly as she hoped. Bryan’s threat was still vivid in his mind, and the possibility that Harper had left with an unknown man sent him outside without hesitation.
“The hell?” he muttered, scanning the dark yard. The door closed behind him before he discovered there was no sign of Harper.
Becca turned the lock. For a few precious minutes, the one person likely to protect Harper was separated from the party.
Inside, Christina climbed to a place where the crowd could see her. She raised her voice over the music. “Attention, everybody. Hello.”
Curious faces turned toward her. Harper emerged from the crowd and felt her stomach drop when she recognized the book in Christina’s hand.
Christina smiled at the attention. “You all seem a little bored, so why don’t I spice things up by reading a few pages of Harper’s diary?” Laughter and cheers answered her.
Harper pushed forward, unable to believe what was happening. A few minutes earlier, Christina had called her a friend. Now she was holding Harper’s most private thoughts like party entertainment.
“No,” Harper said. The protest barely carried through the room, but Christina opened the diary anyway.
“Let’s see.” She drew out the moment, choosing the passage that would hurt most. Harper knew the words before Christina began because she remembered the night she had written them.
“Dear diary, Dad never wants to hang out with me,” Christina read. Her mocking performance transformed a private confession into a joke.
“Sometimes I feel like he doesn’t love me.” The room reacted with a mixture of laughter and delighted discomfort. Harper felt as if every unresolved silence from her father had been exposed under bright lights.
“Oh, Harper,” Christina crooned. “Daddy issues much?” The insult drew another wave of amusement from people who had come for Harper’s alcohol and now stayed for her humiliation.
Harper reached the front of the crowd. “Christina, give it back.” She tried to seize the diary, but Christina lifted it away.
Becca intercepted Harper and held her in place. The gesture made the balance of power brutally clear: Harper had opened her home, yet she could not reclaim her own property inside it.
Outside, Chris tested the locked door and understood he had been tricked. The noise within the house shifted from music to the ugly rhythm of a crowd gathering around cruelty.
Harper struggled against Becca, pleading again for the diary. Christina flipped through the pages with growing satisfaction, searching for a confession even more explosive than Mark’s neglect.
Her eyes stopped on a passage, and her smile changed. Harper followed her gaze and went cold, knowing exactly whose name Christina had found. On the other side of the locked door, Chris heard his own name rise above the crowd.
