The moment Theo left the construction site, Coco’s world began falling apart.
Back at the Smith mansion, she stormed into the living room, her face flushed with frustration.
“Honey?”
Mrs. Smith immediately stood up from the sofa.
“What’s wrong?”
“Who upset you?”
Her voice softened.
“Tell Mommy. I’ll fix everything.”
Instead of calming down, Coco exploded.
“This is all your fault!”
Mrs. Smith blinked in surprise.
“My fault?”
“You were the one who introduced me to Asher!”
Coco shouted.
“Now Theo barely wants to talk to me.”
Mrs. Smith sighed helplessly.
She had only wanted Coco to make more friends among Brookfield’s elite families.
She never imagined it would create problems with Theo Jones.
As Coco paced around the room, her gaze suddenly landed on an old photo album sitting nearby.
Curious, she flipped through the pages.
Then she froze.
A photograph slipped into her hands.
It showed a teenage Raina sitting in a hospital bed.

“Mom…”

“Oh, that?”

She frowned.
“I never found out exactly how she got such a big scar.”
“It looked painful.”
The memory made her uncomfortable.
“I should probably put that photo away.”
“No!”
The word escaped Coco far too quickly.
Mrs. Smith looked confused.
Coco immediately forced a smile.
“I mean…”
“What if Raina comes back one day asking for her things?”
“We should keep everything together.”
Mrs. Smith’s eyes softened.
“Oh, Coco.”
“You’re so thoughtful.”
She had no idea that panic was building inside Coco’s chest.
Because one terrifying possibility had just occurred to her.

Meanwhile, across town, Theo sat inside his office.
The report he had requested finally arrived.
His assistant placed a thick folder on the desk.
“We’ve finished the investigation.”

His heartbeat quickened.

Theo stared at the matching scars.

His assistant hesitated.
