The atmosphere at the food stand had turned icy.
After publicly insulting Raina, Coco seemed determined to push things even further.
She folded her arms and looked around the Lincoln family’s modest operation with obvious disgust.
“Honestly, I’m doing you a favor by showing up.”
Mrs. Lincoln stepped forward immediately.
“You’re not welcome here.”
“Leave.”
Her voice was calm but firm.
Coco laughed.
“No need to be so hostile.”
“Just a few days ago, you were my mother.”
The words struck like a slap.
For a brief moment, sadness flickered across Mrs. Lincoln’s face.
She had loved Coco as her own daughter for nearly twenty years.
But Coco’s next words erased any sympathy.
“You couldn’t wait to get rid of me once you found out I wasn’t your real daughter.”
Mrs. Lincoln’s expression hardened.
“That’s not true.”
“You were the one who left us the moment you learned the Smiths were rich.”
The surrounding workers exchanged uncomfortable glances.
Coco’s face darkened.
“Oh please.”
“I spent years suffering in your pathetic family.”
Her eyes landed on Raina.
“For all I know, you switched us on purpose so Raina could live a better life.”
The accusation stunned everyone.
Mrs. Lincoln trembled with anger.
“How dare you?”
“How could I have raised such an ungrateful child?”
Seeing the older woman upset, Raina gently took her hand.
“It’s okay, Mom.”
The simple word instantly calmed her.
Raina then looked at Coco.
“You should leave.”
For a second, Coco looked ready to explode.
But before she could respond, another voice interrupted.
“Theo?”
Everyone turned.
Theo Jones had arrived.
The moment Coco saw him, her attitude changed completely.
Her arrogant expression vanished, replaced by a sweet smile.
“Theo, what are you doing here?”
Theo’s gaze remained cold.
Nearby stood a handsome young man named Asher.
Theo’s eyes shifted between them.
“Weren’t we discussing marriage recently?”
Coco froze.
Asher looked equally confused.
Coco quickly waved her hands.
“Asher and I are just friends.”
“It’s not like that.”
Theo’s expression didn’t change.
“Your relationship with this Asher fellow doesn’t concern me.”
His detached tone made Coco’s heart sink.
For the first time, she realized something was seriously wrong.
Without another word, Theo turned and walked away.
“Theo!”
Coco called after him desperately.
But he never looked back.
The luxury car disappeared down the road moments later.
Mrs. Lincoln quietly sighed in relief.
Unfortunately, Coco’s anger now needed a new target.
She spun toward Raina.
“This is all your fault!”
“If I lose Theo, the partnership between the Smiths and the Moore family is finished.”
Her voice shook with frustration.
Then she stormed away.
The construction site finally returned to normal.
But inside Theo’s car, the situation was far from settled.
The moment the door closed, Theo’s expression became serious.
His assistant glanced at him nervously.
“Sir, where are we going?”
“Back to the office.”
Theo’s answer came instantly.
The assistant blinked.
“Is something wrong?”
Theo stared out the window.
His mind replayed every interaction he’d witnessed.
Raina’s kindness.
Her honesty.
Her connection to the Smith family.
And Coco’s lies.
The pieces were finally coming together.
“I need information.”
Theo’s voice was sharp.
“Everything you can find.”
The assistant straightened immediately.
“On who?”
Theo didn’t hesitate.
“Noah Lincoln’s sister.”
“Raina.”
His eyes narrowed.
“I want a full report on her within two hours.”
“Understood.”
As the car sped toward downtown Brookfield, Theo felt closer than ever to uncovering the truth.
And somewhere inside that report lay the answer to a question that had haunted him for years.
