Pregnant and Spoiled by the Billionaire – Episode 1

The examination room felt much too small for news that could overturn Amelia Gates’s entire life. She sat rigidly on the edge of the paper-covered table, watching the doctor study her chart while the sterile scent of disinfectant turned her stomach. She had blamed the nausea on stress, sleepless nights, and cheap cafeteria food. Pregnancy had been the one explanation she had refused to consider.

The doctor looked up with a reassuring smile. “Congratulations. You’re eight weeks pregnant.” The words struck Amelia with such force that every sound beyond the closed door seemed to disappear. Her fingers tightened around the hem of her sweater as she silently counted backward, already knowing where the calculation would lead.

Eight weeks meant one night, one man, and one impossible name. Leo Preston was not simply wealthy; he was the billionaire founder of Preston Group, a man whose face appeared on business magazines and whose decisions moved entire industries. Amelia pressed a trembling hand to her abdomen. “I’m pregnant with Leo Preston’s baby?” she whispered. “What am I going to do?”

Eight weeks earlier, Amelia had stood in the gleaming lobby of Preston Group with a notebook clutched against her chest and rejection waiting at the reception desk. It was her eighth visit to the building, a fact that should have embarrassed her but instead made her more determined. As a college junior trying to prove herself as a journalist, she could not afford to return to her editor empty-handed again.

The receptionist recognized her immediately and offered a strained, professional smile. Amelia leaned toward the desk before the woman could dismiss her. “I have to speak with Mr. Preston for my article today,” she said, trying to sound confident rather than desperate. One interview with the famously private billionaire could give her story the attention—and the grade—she desperately needed.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Gates,” the receptionist replied. “Mr. Preston doesn’t grant interviews. He’s quite firm on that.” Her tone suggested she had repeated the same answer often enough to memorize it, especially for the stubborn student who kept appearing in front of her desk. The security guards nearby had begun to recognize Amelia too.

Amelia swallowed her disappointment. She had researched Leo for weeks, read every public statement he had made, and built her questions around the renewable-energy empire he had created. Giving up now would make all seven previous visits meaningless. “I understand,” she said, “but please tell Mr. Preston that I’m not a quitter.”

The receptionist’s expression softened despite herself. Amelia sensed a crack in the wall and waited, unwilling to move until she received something more useful than another refusal. With a quiet sigh, the woman glanced toward the elevators and lowered her voice. “He usually heads back from lunch around two ten. Maybe you can catch him near his office.”

Hope surged through Amelia so quickly that she nearly laughed. She thanked the receptionist and hurried away before the woman could reconsider. There was little time to prepare, yet Amelia had never been more ready. If Leo Preston gave her only thirty seconds, she would find a way to turn them into an interview.

High above the lobby, Leo stood behind the glass walls of his office and stared at the city he had conquered one deal at a time. The view usually calmed him, but his mother’s voice coming through his phone made peace impossible. She had arranged another blind date without asking him, this time with the daughter of a family whose name carried more prestige than personality.

“Mom, please stop setting me up on blind dates,” Leo said, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He could negotiate a hostile acquisition without raising his voice, but these conversations tested the limits of his patience. “I’m tired of socialites and influencers.” They arrived with rehearsed smiles, carefully managed images, and an obvious interest in the Preston fortune.

His mother was not discouraged. As far as she was concerned, her son’s unmarried status was a family crisis that required immediate intervention. Leo was the only Preston heir, and each year he spent building his company instead of a family made her more relentless. “Then who are you interested in?” she demanded.

Leo had no answer that would satisfy her. He had dated beautiful women and attended enough charity galas to meet every eligible heiress in the city, but none of them had made him want to rearrange his life. Work was demanding, predictable, and honest about what it wanted from him. Romance had never offered the same certainty.

“I’ll know when I meet her,” he finally said. It sounded vague even to him, but it was the truth. If he ever committed himself to someone, it would not be because two powerful families had compared bank accounts and approved the match. He wanted a woman who saw the man beneath the Preston name—and who had enough fire to challenge him.

His mother warned that the right woman would not simply materialize in his office. Leo ended the call with a promise he had no intention of keeping: that he would think about the next blind date. His assistant immediately reminded him of the meetings packed into his afternoon, leaving him only enough time to collect lunch and return before three.

Downstairs, Amelia spent the next hour reviewing her notes until she knew every question by heart. She had researched Leo’s donations, his alma mater, and the clean-energy projects that had made him one of the youngest billionaires in the country. What she could not learn from articles was why he avoided interviews so fiercely. That mystery was what made him worth pursuing.

At two o’clock, she positioned herself near the private elevators, pretending not to notice the suspicious glances from security. At two five, doubt began to gnaw at her. By two nine, every passing suit made her straighten. Her chance depended on a receptionist’s estimate and a man who had never agreed to see her.

Then the lobby changed. Conversations quieted, employees stepped aside, and a tall man in a dark tailored suit crossed the marble floor with effortless authority. Amelia recognized Leo at once, but photographs had failed to capture the intensity of his presence. He was younger than she expected, strikingly handsome, and moving far too quickly toward the elevators.

Her rehearsed introduction vanished. She gathered her notebook, hurried after him, and slipped between two startled executives. Leo’s attention remained on the message in his hand, unaware that the persistent journalism student had finally breached the distance his staff had carefully maintained.

The elevator doors began to close. Amelia thrust out her hand, forcing them apart, and found herself face-to-face with the one man who could change her future. As Leo lifted his gaze to the breathless stranger blocking his path, she tightened her grip on her notebook and prepared to make the most important request of her life.
