The Alpha Queen Returns – Chapter 8

Caroline lay weakly on a small bed inside the Russo estate.

Her breathing was shallow.

The mysterious drug coursing through her body had left her exhausted and barely conscious.

Yet while she suffered, the people responsible were already discussing how to profit from her misery.

Melissa Russo paced nervously across the room.

“Lord Killian Darkmoon is the leader of the rogue wolves.”

She looked toward her son.

“But why would someone like him care about Caroline?”

Her expression twisted with confusion.

“She’s a useless omega.”

Rex sat comfortably in a chair, completely unconcerned by Caroline’s condition.

“I don’t know.”

A greedy smile spread across his face.

“And honestly, I don’t care.”

Melissa frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Rex stood and walked toward the window.

Outside, the sun was beginning to set.

“I’ll do whatever it takes to join Lord Darkmoon’s side.”

His eyes gleamed with ambition.

“Think about the power.”

“The influence.”

“The future.”

Melissa’s expression darkened.

“But the rumors…”

She lowered her voice.

“They say Darkmoon is ruthless.”

“He murdered our king.”

The memory still frightened many wolves across the kingdom.

Killian Darkmoon wasn’t just another rogue.

He was becoming something much more dangerous.

A conqueror.

A kingmaker.

A nightmare.

“If people find out you’ve betrayed our pack and sided with him, our family will be ruined.”

Rex laughed.

“They won’t find out.”

Then his confidence grew even stronger.

“Besides, it won’t matter.”

Melissa blinked.

“What?”

Rex turned toward her.

“Darkmoon is unstoppable.”

The certainty in his voice was unsettling.

“Soon he’ll take over every pack in the kingdom.”

His grin widened.

“And when that happens, I’ll be standing beside him.”

Melissa stared at him.

“You really believe that?”

Rex nodded.

“I’ll become his right-hand man.”

His eyes sparkled with greed.

“Our family will be richer and more powerful than ever.”

Melissa hesitated.

“But why would Darkmoon choose you?”

She folded her arms.

“Wouldn’t he choose Ambassador Ansel instead?”

The mention of Ansel immediately made Rex scoff.

“Ansel?”

He shook his head.

“He’s too loyal.”

“Too stubborn.”

“Too foolishly devoted to a dead king.”

Rex’s voice dripped with contempt.

“Darkmoon has no use for people like him.”

Then a smug smile appeared on his face.

“Unlike me.”

Melissa’s curiosity grew.

“What exactly did Darkmoon promise you?”

Rex couldn’t hide his excitement.

“If I offer Caroline to Alpha Hunter at General Sarabeth’s welcome banquet…”

He paused dramatically.

“And if I manage to win Hunter over…”

Melissa leaned forward.

“Then what?”

Rex grinned.

“Darkmoon will make me Ambassador.”

For a moment, Melissa simply stared.

Then her face lit up with excitement.

“My son is a genius.”

The two shared a laugh.

Neither noticed Caroline’s weak fingers trembling beneath the blanket.

Even in her drugged state, she could hear fragments of their conversation.

She wasn’t a person to them.

She was a bargaining chip.

A gift.

A tool for their ambition.

Suddenly Melissa’s phone chimed.

She glanced at the screen.

Then her eyes widened.

“Oh!”

“What is it?” Rex asked.

Melissa looked thrilled.

“The money arrived.”

Rex immediately stepped closer.

“How much?”

Melissa showed him the notification.

One billion dollars.

Transferred successfully.

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Then they burst out laughing.

“I can’t believe Jessica managed to convince Ambassador Ansel so easily.”

Melissa shook her head.

“That woman must have him wrapped around her finger.”

Her expression turned cruel.

“What a slut.”

Rex laughed.

“Who cares?”

He pointed at the screen.

“That’s our future right there.”

Melissa nodded eagerly.

“Let’s transfer the money to Lord Darkmoon immediately.”

Rex’s eyes burned with excitement.

“Exactly.”

“This is our golden ticket to power.”

Neither of them realized that their celebration was about to become their downfall.

Far away, inside military headquarters, General Sarabeth was reviewing preparations for the evening banquet when Mina suddenly rushed into the room.

“General!”

Sarabeth looked up.

“What happened?”

Mina handed her a report crystal.

“We just received a financial alert.”

Sarabeth frowned.

“A financial alert?”

Mina nodded.

“A billion dollars was transferred into Melissa Russo’s account.”

Sarabeth’s eyes narrowed.

“From where?”

“At first we traced it to Ambassador Ansel.”

That alone was surprising.

But Mina hadn’t finished.

“And when investigators followed the transaction further…”

She swallowed hard.

“They discovered the original source.”

Sarabeth felt a sudden sense of dread.

“Who?”

Mina looked directly at her.

“The money came from Queen Jessica.”

The room fell silent.

Sarabeth slowly stood.

Her expression darkened.

“What?”

If Jessica had personally funded the Russo family, it meant she still trusted them completely.

Which also meant she had no idea what was happening to Caroline.

As Sarabeth remembered the footage of the princess being abused, a dangerous anger began rising inside her.

The Russo family wasn’t merely exploiting Caroline anymore.

They were exploiting the Queen herself.

And soon, they would learn exactly how costly that mistake would be.
