The Alpha Queen Returns – Chapter 7
The morning sunlight streamed through the windows of Jessica’s secluded clinic as she reviewed patient records.
For the first time in years, she had built the peaceful life she had always wanted.
No wars.
No politics.
No throne.
Just healing.
Yet something still weighed heavily on her heart.
Caroline.
Ever since visiting the Russo estate, Jessica couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
To distract herself, she activated a communication crystal.
Moments later, Ambassador Ansel appeared.
The handsome diplomat immediately bowed his head.
“My Queen.”
Jessica nodded.
“Ansel.”
Her expression turned serious.
“General Sarabeth informed me that rogue wolves are continuing their attacks along the borders.”
Ansel sighed.
“The situation is becoming worse.”
Jessica’s eyes hardened.
“As leader of the Great Wolf Council, I expect you to spare no effort in assisting Sarabeth.”
Ansel immediately straightened.
“Of course, Your Majesty.”
“I’ll do everything in my power.”
Only then did Jessica relax slightly.
She still refused to return to the throne, but she would never ignore threats to her people.
Not completely.
The conversation shifted.
“This afternoon,” Ansel said, “I’m hosting a welcome banquet for General Sarabeth.”
Jessica already knew where this was heading.
“The major Alphas from every territory will be attending.”
Ansel smiled politely.
“It would be an honor if you joined us.”
Jessica didn’t even hesitate.
“No.”
The answer was immediate.
Ansel wasn’t surprised.
“You still wish to remain hidden.”
Jessica walked toward the clinic window.
Outside, ordinary villagers were beginning their day.
This life suited her.
“I live peacefully now.”
Her voice softened.
“I don’t want anyone discovering my true identity.”
Then her expression became even gentler.
“Especially Caroline.”
Ansel understood immediately.
The princess still believed her mother was nothing more than a healer.
Jessica intended to keep it that way.
“Caroline is happy,” she said with a small smile.
“She’s living a normal life with the Russo family.”
The words left her mouth with complete confidence.
A confidence that would soon be shattered.
Ansel lowered his gaze.
If he knew the truth, he didn’t show it.
Instead, he bowed respectfully.
“As always, I will honor your wishes.”
Jessica smiled.
“Thank you.”
As the communication ended, neither of them realized how wrong Jessica was about her daughter’s happiness.
Meanwhile, at the Russo estate, chaos erupted.
Caroline lay curled on the floor of a storage room.
Her face was pale.
Sweat covered her skin.
Her breathing came in weak, painful gasps.
Whatever she had been given was tearing through her body.
Melissa stared at her in alarm.
“God…”
For the first time, genuine panic crossed her face.
“She’s not dead, is she?”
Rex immediately turned toward Reva.
“What did you give her?”
Reva took a nervous step backward.
“I didn’t know it would affect her like this.”
“Answer me!”
Rex roared.
Reva flinched.
Then she quickly pointed the blame elsewhere.
“It wasn’t my idea!”
“Lord Killian Darkmoon gave me the drug.”
The room fell silent.
Both Melissa and Rex froze.
Killian Darkmoon.
One of the most feared and influential Alphas in the kingdom.
If his name was involved, things were suddenly far more dangerous.
“What kind of drug was it?” Melissa demanded.
“I don’t know!”
Reva cried.
“He just said it would make her obedient.”
Caroline let out a weak cough.
Blood stained the corner of her lips.
The sight immediately unsettled everyone.
Because despite years of abusing her, none of them had intended for her to die.
At least not yet.
Rex cursed under his breath.
“If something happens to her before the banquet, Alpha Hunter will be furious.”
Melissa’s face turned pale.
And if Alpha Hunter became angry…
their plans would collapse.
On the floor, Caroline struggled to keep her eyes open.
Her vision blurred.
Her body burned.
Every breath felt harder than the last.
In her fading consciousness, she thought of only one person.
Her mother.
Tears slipped down her cheeks.
“Mom…”
Her voice was barely audible.
The room spun around her.
“I’m dying.”
As darkness began closing in, neither Caroline nor the Russo family realized that fate was already moving.
The lies surrounding the princess were beginning to unravel.
And very soon, Queen Jessica would learn the terrible truth hidden behind the walls of the Russo estate.
