Continue the Story

The news of the cafeteria incident spread through Western High faster than wildfire.

By the next morning, everyone had seen the photos.

Everyone had seen the videos.

And everyone had an opinion.

Some students secretly admired Hailey for standing up to Candice.

Most were too afraid to admit it.

Because as far as they knew, Candice Kaplan was still the richest and most powerful girl in school.

And nobody wanted to make an enemy of a Kaplan.

Hailey stood quietly in front of her locker.

For the first time all day, she was enjoying a few minutes of peace.

She opened the locker door and began organizing her books.

A history textbook.

A notebook.

A planner.

Simple.

Normal.

Exactly how she wanted her life to be.

Unfortunately, normal never seemed to last very long around Candice.

“Well, well, well.”

A familiar voice echoed down the hallway.

Hailey sighed before even turning around.

Here we go again.

Candice approached with Gail and Tiffany following close behind.

Like loyal bodyguards.

Or attack dogs.

Depending on the day.

Candice’s eyes immediately landed on Hailey’s wrist.

And she stopped walking.

A flash of jealousy crossed her face.

There, peeking out from beneath Hailey’s sleeve, was an elegant Cartier watch.

Not flashy.

Not oversized.

But unmistakably expensive.

Very expensive.

Far more expensive than anything Candice could actually afford.

“No way.”

Candice stepped closer.

Her eyes narrowed.

“Little Miss Thrift Store scored that bling legally?”

The hallway instantly grew quiet.

Students nearby slowed down to listen.

Drama was about to happen.

Again.

Candice grabbed Hailey’s wrist before she could react.

“Guys!”

She raised her voice dramatically.

“Looks like we’ve got a kleptomaniac on the loose!”

The crowd immediately gathered.

Whispers spread.

“What happened?”

“Did she steal something?”

“Seriously?”

Hailey yanked her arm back.

“Back off, Candice.”

But Candice wasn’t finished.

Not even close.

She held up the watch for everyone to see.

“Can you believe this?”

She laughed.

“Little Miss Wannabe actually had the nerve to steal my Cartier.”

The crowd gasped.

Several students immediately believed her.

After all, Candice was supposedly rich enough to own dozens of luxury watches.

Hailey?

She looked like a regular student.

The conclusion seemed obvious.

“As if.”

Gail rolled her eyes.

“That thing’s probably a Chinatown special.”

Tiffany laughed.

“Seriously.”

“Real Cartier costs more than her entire wardrobe.”

The girls burst into laughter.

Others joined in.

Soon the entire hallway was mocking Hailey.

Hailey clenched her fists.

“It’s not fake.”

The words came out sharper than intended.

Because this wasn’t just a watch.

This watch mattered.

A lot.

Candice noticed the change immediately.

And smiled.

A cruel smile.

“Oh, honey.”

She twirled the watch in her hand.

“There’s only one authentic Kaplan heirloom around here.”

She placed a hand on her chest.

“And you’re looking at its owner.”

More laughter.

More applause.

More worship.

For the first time since arriving at Western High, Hailey felt genuine anger.

Not because of the insults.

Not because of the humiliation.

But because of the watch.

The watch had been a gift from her mother.

One of the few things she never took off.

One of the few things she truly treasured.

“But I’m the real Kaplan heiress.”

The words slipped out before she could stop them.

Silence followed.

A brief, stunned silence.

Then the hallway exploded with laughter.

“Oh my God.”

Gail nearly fell over.

“She’s actually saying it now.”

“Delusional much?”

Tiffany added.

“Next she’ll claim she owns the castle.”

Even Candice laughed.

Although deep down, something about Hailey’s confidence unsettled her.

Only for a second.

Then she pushed the feeling away.

“Give it back.”

Hailey stepped forward.

“My mom gave that to me.”

Something flickered in her eyes.

Something serious.

Something dangerous.

For a moment, Candice hesitated.

Then she doubled down.

“Stop.”

Candice smirked.

“Did your mommy get the five-finger discount?”

The slap came immediately afterward.

CRACK.

The sound echoed through the hallway.

Students gasped.

Hailey’s head snapped to the side.

A red mark instantly appeared on her cheek.

The hallway fell silent.

Even Gail looked surprised.

Candice hadn’t planned to hit her.

But now that she had…

The rush of power felt good.

Too good.

Hailey slowly turned back.

Her cheek burned.

Her eyes hardened.

And for the first time, several students looked nervous.

Because the expression on Hailey’s face wasn’t hurt.

It was fury.

Before either girl could move again, the school intercom crackled overhead.

“Attention, students.”

The principal’s voice echoed throughout the building.

Everyone froze.

“There will be a special assembly in five minutes.”

Students exchanged excited looks.

The assembly.

They had almost forgotten.

“Today we will officially welcome the heiress of the Kaplan family.”

Excited whispers immediately spread.

“The Kaplan family has generously donated to our school.”

The hallway erupted with excitement.

Candice’s smile returned instantly.

This was perfect.

Absolutely perfect.

Meanwhile, Hailey felt something entirely different.

Relief.

Finally.

After days of lies.

Days of bullying.

Days of watching Candice steal her identity.

The truth was about to come out.

A small smile appeared on her face.

“You can fool everyone.”

She looked directly at Candice.

“But you can’t fool Principal Adams.”

Candice’s confidence faltered.

Just slightly.

Hailey continued.

“He met me in person.”

The hallway became quiet again.

Students listened carefully.

“At our house.”

Candice’s heart skipped a beat.

“He personally accepted the donation check.”

The words landed like a bomb.

For the first time all day…

Candice felt fear.

Real fear.

Because if Principal Adams truly knew the Kaplan family…

Then the assembly could destroy everything she had built.

Her popularity.

Her power.

Her reputation.

Everything.

The bell rang.

Students began moving toward the auditorium.

Candice remained frozen.

Watching Hailey walk away.

For the first time since arriving at Western High, the fake queen bee wasn’t thinking about victory.

She was thinking about survival.

Because in just a few minutes…

The entire school was about to learn who the real Kaplan heiress truly was.

Or so Hailey believed.

To be continued…
