The Alpha Queen Returns – Chapter 4
Caroline stood frozen in the center of the Russo mansion as Reva clutched her bleeding forehead and cried dramatically.
Within minutes, the entire Russo family had gathered.
Melissa Russo rushed into the room first.
“What is going on?”
Reva immediately burst into tears.
“Mom!”
She pointed directly at Caroline.
“It’s Caroline! She attacked me!”
Caroline’s eyes widened.
“No! I didn’t!”
“You’re lying!” Reva screamed.
“You pushed me!”
“I didn’t push you. You tripped—”
Before she could finish, a powerful hand grabbed her shoulder.
Caroline winced.
Rex Russo towered over her, his eyes filled with fury.
“How dare you hurt my sister?”
His wolf aura pressed down on her.
Caroline struggled to breathe.
“You ungrateful bitch.”
Rex shoved her backward.
“We feed you.”
“We shelter you.”
“And this is how you repay us?”
Tears filled Caroline’s eyes.
Nobody cared about the truth.
Nobody ever did.
Meanwhile, miles away, Jessica was organizing herbs inside her clinic when her communicator suddenly rang.
Melissa Russo’s face appeared in the projection crystal.
“Jessica!”
Melissa looked furious.
“Your daughter attacked Reva.”
Jessica’s heart skipped a beat.
“What?”
“Reva is injured. You need to get here immediately.”
The connection ended.
Jessica stood motionless for a second.
Then she dropped everything.
Caroline had never been violent.
Never.
Something wasn’t right.
Without hesitation, she rushed toward the Russo estate.
Elsewhere, General Sarabeth was preparing for another frustrating afternoon.
A soldier approached and saluted.
“General.”
Sarabeth looked up.
“What is it?”
“We’ve received confirmation.”
The soldier handed her a formal invitation.
“Ambassador Ansel is hosting a welcome banquet in your honor this afternoon.”
Sarabeth groaned.
“Please tell me there’s a way to get out of this.”
The soldier smiled awkwardly.
“No, General.”
Sarabeth rolled her eyes.
Political events were somehow worse than battlefields.
Then a thought suddenly crossed her mind.
“Wait.”
Her expression sharpened.
“Ansel.”
The soldier nodded.
“Yes, General.”
“He was the one who recommended the Russo family to care for Princess Caroline, wasn’t he?”
The soldier immediately straightened.
“Affirmative.”
Sarabeth exchanged a look with Mina.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
That meant Ansel was directly connected to the people mistreating the princess.
“And Rex Russo works under Ansel.”
“Yes, General.”
A dangerous smile slowly appeared on Sarabeth’s face.
“Well.”
She folded her arms.
“This party just became a lot more interesting.”
Before she could say anything else, Mina hurried into the room.
“General.”
Something in her voice immediately caught Sarabeth’s attention.
“What happened?”
Mina activated a recording crystal.
“You need to see this.”
The footage began playing.
Sarabeth watched as Caroline knelt on the floor.
She watched Reva mock her.
Insult her.
Humiliate her.
“And you’re the bastard daughter of a worthless peasant healer.”
“You’re nothing but a slave in this pack.”
The room fell silent.
The footage continued.
Every cruel word.
Every threat.
Every act of abuse.
Mina clenched her fists.
Sarabeth’s face darkened with every passing second.
By the time the recording ended, the temperature in the room seemed to have dropped ten degrees.
“Those bastards.”
The words came out dangerously soft.
For years, Jessica had trusted the Russo family with her daughter.
And this was how they repaid that trust.
Sarabeth’s eyes burned with fury.
“If the Queen sees this…”
Mina nodded.
“The Russos are finished.”
Back at the Russo mansion, Caroline stood trembling as Melissa continued her performance.
“My family has served the Great Wolf Council for years.”
Melissa dramatically wrapped an arm around her injured daughter.
“We selflessly took your daughter into our home.”
She pointed accusingly at Caroline.
“We gave her shelter.”
“We allowed her to train with our pack.”
“And this is how she repays us?”
Jessica arrived moments later.
The moment she entered the room, Caroline felt relief flood through her chest.
“Mom!”
But the atmosphere immediately felt wrong.
Jessica looked from Reva’s injury to Caroline’s tear-streaked face.
Her expression became conflicted.
Melissa spoke first.
“Your daughter attacked Reva.”
The room went silent.
Jessica slowly turned toward Caroline.
Her eyes softened.
“Caroline.”
She crouched slightly to meet her daughter’s gaze.
“Tell me the truth.”
Caroline’s throat tightened.
She wanted to explain.
She wanted to tell her mother everything.
The bullying.
The insults.
The threats.
All of it.
But then she remembered Reva’s warning.
If she spoke up, things would only get worse.
For her.
For her mother.
Jessica waited patiently.
“Caroline…”
Tears filled the young girl’s eyes.
“Is this true?”
Everyone stared at her.
Melissa.
Rex.
Reva.
The servants.
All waiting.
Caroline’s lips trembled.
“Mom…”
Her voice cracked.
“I…”
But before she could finish, fear stole the rest of her words.
And for the first time, Jessica began to notice just how terrified her daughter truly looked.
