Lily pulled Summer behind a marble reception desk as the lights failed. The child’s watch had already transmitted an alarm to Connor. They needed to survive until he reached them.
Scarlett was trapped on the executive floor with the Asterion security chief. She understood the attack was meant to divide her from Summer. Voss had studied every rescue Connor attempted before.
The intruders announced that they wanted Evelyn’s authorization module. Scarlett answered through the emergency system that it was not in the building. They began searching room by room anyway.
Lily used a fire extinguisher to blind the first man who reached the lobby. She pushed Summer toward the service stairs but was struck across the shoulder. Summer refused to leave her until Lily ordered her to follow the watch.
Richard’s repair had added directional rescue lights. The display guided Summer through smoke toward a reinforced storage room. She activated its manual lock and called Connor.
He answered while crossing the city with Cypher. Summer reported Lily’s injury and counted the attackers she had seen. Connor praised her for observing, then told her that hiding was the brave choice.
Scarlett descended through an elevator maintenance shaft. She reached Lily before the intruders could take her hostage. Together they sealed the lobby corridor.
Voss spoke through the building screens. He offered safe release in exchange for the module and warned that Vale would not tolerate another deception. Scarlett deliberately revealed the fake archive location.
The attackers breached it and removed the counterfeit device. Guardian entered their equipment the moment they scanned it. Cypher began mapping Vanguard’s network from the moving signal.
Connor arrived as the team attempted to withdraw. He disabled their escape vehicles remotely and entered through the loading dock. The remaining fight ended quickly.
Voss abandoned his operatives rather than risk capture. The stolen module continued transmitting because he believed its internal signal was Vale’s authorization. Cypher traced it toward Vanguard’s coastal facility.
Lily’s shoulder was dislocated but not broken. Richard blamed himself for bringing old enemies into her life. She reminded him that Vale had made the attack, not the people resisting him.
Summer emerged only after Scarlett gave the family password. She ran to Lily first and asked whether heroes were allowed to cry. Lily said heroes usually needed to.
Connor thanked his sister without disguising his fear. Lily told him he could repay her by trusting the family instead of disappearing on a solo assault. Scarlett strongly agreed.
The counterfeit module reached Vanguard. Guardian exposed internal corridors, command servers, and an upcoming investor summit. Vale intended to secure government funding before activating the metropolitan grid.
Scarlett proposed entering the summit as an Asterion representative willing to negotiate. Vale needed her biometric access and would believe fear for Summer had changed her position. Connor would offer his founder key.
Richard objected to using either of them. Connor replied that the difference between a plan and a sacrifice was whether everyone understood the risk. This time, husband and wife chose together.
Before they could finalize the operation, Richard’s convoy left the hospital with Lily. A cloned police vehicle forced it into a tunnel. Communications vanished for forty-seven seconds.
Lily was found unconscious inside the stopped car. Richard and his security chief were gone. A Vanguard symbol appeared on the windshield in projected light.
Vale called Connor from Richard’s phone. He thanked them for delivering the false module and said he had taken a more reliable piece of Constellation instead—the man who had hidden it for twelve years.
